I'd like to modify or open some of the Spring data files such as the UH file or whatever, what would I use for that?
Also can anyone explain why some of the maps on File Universe are in 7z format? The 3 examples I have are:
CLEARaDITCH_v3.7z
fortress.7z
highlands.7z
How do I open these maps? And why doesn't Spring recognize their format? Are they old? (I don't think so as the old format names were SM2 and SMD)
Anyway I just wanted to know what I can do with these files? Or whatever's wrong with them.
What opens Spring's Mod files? SD7?

sd7 files are just renamed .7z files. You use the 7zip software to create these, and it can open them as well, but winrar can also open them if you have that (it can't create them though).
To use those maps you need to rename them. I don't know why the mapmakers didn't before they uploaded.
Maps still use .smd files, along with .smf and .smt (as opposed to the old .sm2 format). They're just packed inside these sd7 files.

I'd tried renaming them before, but just to be on the (yup I did it right) side I tired it again.. They don't load. SPring gives me some funky errors as if to say, "What the heck thing are you trying to pass off as a map pal? This thing's garbage!"
(Someone should rezip those files and repost them on file universe)
Anyway, so where can I get this 7zip software? Google gives me a bunch of places but in my limited searchings I found a site with all broken links and a site that looked like finding it would be a hassle amist all the meriad other things listed.
Care to point me at a place where I can get a version of 7zip that I can download? (I'd take it out with winRAR but then I couldn't replace it back into a Spring acceptable zip format.. <thinks to self: Why can't SY just use Zips like everyone else?>)
