Re: Ta:Kingdoms Spring
You know, considering that the UI in those shots is from spring pre-0.7X, I'd say that stuff is looking pretty good.
Although, who'd really want to play a TA:K mod in Spring?

For the love of Peet, don't reinvent the wheel as an octagon and think you're doing something useful. Why not make a game you want to make instead of remaking something?
Or do like I did. Take the idea of that game and make something new. If you like the game enough to want to remake it, clearly the style and unit design play a part in that. Take those and the story/universe. Leave the rest. Leave it to rot.

Re: Ta:Kingdoms Spring
The creators of "TA" Spring (it's only Spring or Spring RTS now) are the engine developers, while some of the early team members may have been involved in XTA there are few of them still around and XTA is run by Noruas these days. If you want a MOD you need to talk to a MOD developer, if you need changes to the ENGINE you need to talk to an ENGINE developer. Which is it?LoC_Sage wrote:I would like for the creators of ta spring to do the same with ta:kingdoms.
This is an unfinished project:

Re: Ta:Kingdoms Spring
TA: Kingdoms is a collection of content running on a TA derivative engine. Spring, which is not TA Spring, was originally developed to run TA engine content and to some extent can run TA: Kingdoms content. It has become an engine for running general content and is not dedicated to old Cavedog data.
The engine developers do not port content, they develop the engine. If you want Kingdoms gameplay on the Spring engine, you must assemble a development team and replicate the play given the options of the engine. It can be done, but you would need to find game designers; modellers, texturers, cob scripters, lua scripters, sound techs and assemble a content package.

Warlord Zsinj wrote:Zpock, I also agree with that. My favourite of the series was Shogun Total War, and I believe that while the quality in graphics has gone up, the quality of gameplay has plummeted. They seem to think that more fluff=better gameplay, and rather then innovate, have been diluting their original game design with every iteration so far.
i concur
Shogun total war is probably the best of the totalwar series (though i played and modded medieval total war the most). Gameplay even thought limited and limited also in unit selection was way better and i loved the sprite based graphics. Medieval total war was very good i was heavily involved in the online community back then being in the best clan and even acquiring a world ranking (Which isnt hard with a community which at best was a bit bigger than spring) but it was great fun.
RTW and MTW2 ruined it for me tbh online at least apart from being demanding because of the eye candy the gameplay was flawed.I still play MTW2 (heavily modified ofc) singleplayer because its fun and some of the mods are nice and detailed and provide a good challenge aswell as improve on vanilla MTW2's gameplay.
Hopefully Creative Assembly realise that there engine has potential for a good fantasy RTS with an epic feel and make one already... :/ (Warhammer fantasy with totalwar engine <3)
ontopic i enjoyed TA : kingdoms but OTA > it
Re: Ta:Kingdoms Spring
not really
Re: Ta:Kingdoms Spring
Most content developers have their hands full already. You would need to produce your own - people would play it, but the people who could make it happen within our community are busy.
Re: Ta:Kingdoms Spring
I remember when that gay ass F**CKING mod came out. It was shortly after Cavedog disbanded, and produced by the remnants of the design team.
I consider it to be a disrespect towards Christ Taylor after he made the best RTS ever. It is the culmination of the ultimate pile of shit lumped into the greatest RTS engine showing how Chris really left a mark of genius into TA.
I would almost say that uttering the name of Kingdoms should be an unforgivable sin.

Re: Ta:Kingdoms Spring
Tagging CT with all the credit for TA is misattributing credit by a sizeable margin, as he wasn't the sole person responsible for making it awesome. The rest of the team behind it were equally important in shaping it.
After all, he headed Supcom's development, and if he was so frickin' awesome, everyone would have left TA for Supcom already, and Supcom would have heralded a new era of RTS.
Instead, he's bitching about piracy causing mediocre sales and talking about 'diversifying' to consoles which makes me somewhat regret getting SupCom.
You're entitled to your opinion, but there are others who liked the TA:K game and would like to see a Spring port. It was very different in many ways yet alike, and was a bold stab at innovation by having the guts to make something new.

This is pathetic. It's no wonder to me why this community is dying.

Because the real point of a community is to accomodate the arrogant idiot who tries to force his oppinion on everyone and considers himself tzhe majority even though noone else agrees with his views.Scratch wrote:This is pathetic. It's no wonder to me why this community is dying.
