Re: Random WIP
its too bright then, i'll make it darker
Re: Random WIP
Fullbright as in NO lighting or shading. You want to apply as much of that as possible when you draw the texture for something. False lighting makes your units look much better, especially for something like Spring which doesn't have very advanced shading.
Re: Random WIP
you misundertood me, i meant that without lightning the texture was too bright so it should be darkened
Re: Random WIP

some more, but out of inspiration for now, need some tips

Re: Random WIP
Look up pictures of actual fighters or pictures of similar craft by experienced artists. It's a good way to come up with details and to see where shadows and highlights go.
Re: Random WIP
Yeah, there are panels on most planes...
Does yours have an engine? >_>

It's on the bottom.Snipawolf wrote:Does yours have an engine? >_>

Re: Random WIP
its like a jet fighter, you cant see the engine, just the exhausts
Re: Random WIP
The front wings are way too thick
Re: Random WIP
they look thicker than they actually are, i'll post a pic in a better angle when i have time

Re: Random WIP
L.M.D.F "Magnaton" VLRS (Vertical Launch Rocket System).
An old design from the 3080's, the Magnaton is still in use among LMDF forces universally. It's guided 'Hellshark' rockets are capable of wild mid-flight course adjustments, which effectively means you don't even have to point the Magnaton launcher in the right direction: the rockets will find their targets anyway (An experiment in 3147 proved that the rockets could still traverse to target even when the Magnaton was suspended upside-down from a crane). The lack of a need for a turret allows the Magnaton greater stability: it can literally drive up, deploy, fire and then scoot off within the space of a few minutes. Reversing into firing positions are a common tactic among Magnaton drivers: the rockets are launched near vertically, the direction of the Magnaton itself has little effect - by reversing into position, the Magnaton will ensure it is facing in the right direction for a speedy getaway.
The Magnaton's main weaknesses revolve around it's weak armour and reloading speeds: after firing all the rockets in it's launcher, it can take quite some time to reload them all. It's armour is weak as a payoff for speed: as an artillery unit, it was never intended for frontline use in the first place: the armour will protect it from shrapnel and light infantry weapons, but if enemy forces reach a Magnaton position, it is best to retreat.
The rockets themselves are primarily used for anti-tank and base-busting work, and are not very effective against infantry targets due to a low area of effect: anti-infantry and area-suppression roles are better filled by Pfer 79 RMGLS (Rotary Mass Grenade Launching System)
In actual game terms, the Magnaton fires v-launch rockets, though with the fixedLauncher tag (the launcher isn't quite vertical). It has good range and speed, but shoddy armour and cannot fire on the move. It's rockets also lack the area-of-effect to take out mass infantry effectively. The rockets are guided, and can be relied on to hit their targets. They're also very useful for hit-and-run attacks. The Magnatons themselves are quite cheap, but the rockets they fire aren't.

What you described there is pretty much any artillery vehicle these days...Guessmyname wrote:The lack of a need for a turret allows the Magnaton greater stability: it can literally drive up, deploy, fire and then scoot off within the space of a few minutes.
Re: Random WIP
Perhaps his backstory includes some catastrophic... thingy... or other period of retrograde tech development. Otherwise, yeah, I would expect more from something developed in the far future than the same thing we have today with slightly more nimble missiles.

Re: Random WIP
True. It's still pretty good at raiding bases. Besides, in the mod it's for, there are other artillery units: the Magnaton is the most mobile.
Plus, LMDF technology is supposed to suck a bit in comparison to their opponents (it's in the backstory)

Re: Random WIP
BTW, why is it in greyscale?
Re: Random WIP
I can see some red tones but it's pretty much grayscale... overlaying metal images using one of the blend modes like overlay or multiply) on top of the metal bits at a low opacity can help breaking the monotone look up without much work.
Other than that I can say that you improved a lot, looks good.
