[Ubuntu 8.04|KDE4]CA segfaults

Post by symmetricus »

Though other mods work flawless CA segfaults at "Entry ( )". I checked Rev 1675 and 1694.

spring 0.76-b1~1ubuntu4
spring-engine 0.76-b1~1ubuntu4

Any hint would be appreciated.

yokozar packaged a sorta "experimental" release candidate for next version, the CA crash seems to be a known issue

Ok, thank you for the info Brain Damage.
I actually got it to work. I had to delete infolog.txt before launching a CA game. Sounds weird but the behaviour is reproducible.

I will try to investigate what causes this error.

The error will likely show up when a certain unit is selected. Dunno which one though. If you find out which, I'll be able to test my probable fix.

Hi I reopen the thread to add info.

Spring AND CA AND KDE4 crash at loading when they are together. This means that I can launch successfully BA or MA or Simbase over KDE4, or launch successfully CA under KDE3.5.

Yet if I crash spring under KDE4, I will not be able to relaunch under KDE3 if I just change sessions. More over a X restart does not autolaunch kdm, and puts me to prompt (indirect consequence I guess).

It's not all that "phail", Spring and CA must launch successfully 1/10 times, but with altered performances (mouse lagging, FPS down to half to what I get under kde3)

I tried to play with spring settings (resolution, colo depth, lumps, lua, zbuffer, v sync, ...) but it doesn't change anything (well at least for the crashing, because under KDE3 I doubled My FPS to 120 lol)

For my specs: C2Duo 2,5ghz 32 bit, radeon hd 2600 128 mo with latest catalyst drivers, 3go RAM, kubuntu 8.04 fully upgraded under KDE4 beta 2. CA has been tested over various stable and test versions over 1 month.

I will try the rm ~/.spring/infolog.txt trick to see if it works and will post result here.

KDE4 crash might be a KDE4 bug, due to the beta state of KDE4

Yet, spring runs fine with any other mod than CA... So it might / might not.

More info, the infolog.txt deletion did not do the trick. tested on KDE4 with and without desktop effects. Still results in segfault.
