This thread had better be remarkably less dramatic when I get back from vacation. As it stands I can't find serious suggestions and comments because everything is buried under vague irrelevant arguments.

I mean come on, the only thing that you lot have to argue about is fonts and logos? sweet jesus, i wish i had time to waste on stuff like that. Its the Spring frontpage, not the PURE or Evolution frontpage. Take advantage of the opportunity to promote your mods for free to every person who comes to the site.

I think the point is there is no PURE front page. Forb has an evolution front page but I don't remember the link.

Either way spring is open source code wise and licence wise but the community is not a pure open model. We have a command heirarchy with Tobi sitting at the top. Remember the whole point of the site upgrade is not to equally showcase your work and those of others but to showcase spring. We could have banners which have no games in at all that showcase maps or lua gadgets, or banners with several games photo shopped in.

Eitherway I still think its ludicrous that despite several very large links to the game page, nobody at all has posted any image of any kind on that page. Your fighting over the banner so much you're neglecting the golden goose and the unicorn and the mound of cash next door so you can grab a hold of the booby prize.

Eitherway I still contend that a single html page with some pretty formatting would be far better than the outdated website currently sitting at your site argh. I know you're capable of far more, you've demonstrated that on these forums already. You've already created more than enough artwork that you can recycle into a place holder site, and that was before you started churning out P.U.R.E banners for the spring site.

Agreed. This is ridiculous. A ham-acted soap about the adolescent hardcore emo scene would be less likely to implode from the sheer mass of juvenile angst.

Moreover, I severely doubt that the actors here have the excuse of puberty and bad music taste.

Now we have a dedicated box theres no reason to argue over the banner. Perhaps we should make some banners which arent dedicated to showing of game content, such as maps, or strategic map zooming that shows the whole map, or water renderers, or lua gadgets. There are things that can be shown off without having a single unit in sight.

I cannot support that. That proposed box would be so small that it'd just be colorful noise, if a screenshot- people would just make giant logos instead. And on quite a few people's screens, it would be clipped by the bottom of the page. The position and size virtually guarantee it'd be useless as an effective promotional tool.

The Spring engine is the sole reason why this community exists at all. All 3rd party work that exists here, both mods and games, are possible only because of the SY team.

And everyone else: fnordia has already made it very clear, and said all that needed to be heard plus being very nice about it, but he was judiciously ignored for the most part.

I do believe fnord is being smart enough to wait until it's 100% finished and refined, to give it a clean launch. NASA didn't launch Apollo 11 until they were sure they could keep a man alive on the moon.

Af wants it deployed prematurely so he can say I told you so and then claim that we all made mistakes. By rushing the new launch he can sabotage the site in his own way. He is doing this because his site was rejected.

Pretty much as useless as the main banner with the little logo in the corner, but you don't have any say in it as roflcopters decisions are quite definitive.

Eitherway the frontpage is intended to draw users into the rest of the site, and the rest of the site is prime real estate that's laying untouched.

Im surprised nobodies mentioned the download page either, you can guarantee all the new users who go to download spring will goto that page, what better a place to put a 'featured games' box, or the games page too.

I want the site deployed because the longer we leave it the less likely it'll be that it ever gets deployed. This happened to my site, it happened to tobis site. Currently what fnordias done works, and its a vast improvement over what we're currently using.

May I also remind you people that my site was not rejected, I abandoned it.

As a final attempt to reach a compromise... how's about two 378X378 images, side by side? 378, to allow a 4-pixel area between them- two pixels of the dark gray, two pixels in between of the lighter, to create a true visual border.

They'd rotate shots- one side would be generic images, devoid of logos, the other would allow for logos. So, you could have a cool screen of BA next to a shot from CA, with a logo. The logos would have to be kept small, to keep from overwhelming such a small screen, but how it would be interpreted would be up to the people providing the shot. That seems fair to me, and would require only small design changes, code-side.

This would allow for legitimate promotion, but it would also ensure that the content designers have an incentive to make nice generic shots- their games could be represented (without credit, for those shots) so we'd all get what we want, pretty much... just a thought.

There already is a game page on it which is infinitely more than the current site has.

I am not skewing anything. you stand on the shoulders of giants forb. Which is why I say it isn't about our projects. I would only post my project pictures on the spring site to promote this engine to other people looking to start projects. I fully believe that if someone wants to play the project you should direct them to your site.

I'll not make any banners until fnordia asks me to. You guys can keep making agreements with one another but you are not the ones making the call. Again, threatening the guy doing it isn't going to help your case nor has all this rage and drama.

You should feel honored to be allowed onto the frontpage, not the other way.
