Feature request: Build into group

Post by IMSabbel »

Maybe this one is already there but i missed it, but i would like a feature comparable to the one of earth 2160:

The posibility to make all units leaving a factory to become members of a group.
Like having 2 aircraft plants, one for brawlers, one for hawks, and have them build into group 1 and 2 repectively....

If you set your building to group 2, all units will become members of the group 2. Same for "hold pos" etc..

The bad thing is when you take your group and ask them to move, it will change the rally point of the factory.

Then make it like ota, if theres units and buildings in the hotkey, only select the units, or make it one for units, two for both, three for buildings.

That's because when you select group X, Factory X is also selected (which didn't happen in TA, by the way). There's another problem too: because the factory is part of the group you can't right-click on an enemy to issue an attack command, because the factory (which is part of the group) lacks that command

I pointed this out before (I think maybe as a bug report on sourceforge), but it would be great if this could get fixed. I really miss the old behaviour. Factories should not be selected by default when you select a group of that number. The only time a factory should be selected if it is assigned a group number and that group is recalled is if only factories are part of the group.

you could make a PrevSelection+_Not_Building+_ClearSelection_SelectAll+ entry in the select keys tool... also useful for unselecting metal makers and static defences in a drag select

Yes, I find the fact that it selects the factory very annoying, too.
What should happen imo is that it should still select the factory, but orders should be giveable if ANY of the units in your group can accept it, rather than if ALL of them. Additionally, factories should have a 'Set Rally Point' command rather than move. When you have only selected factories, then right click = set rally point, but if you have units in your selection, then right click = move.

Well, in TA, the problem was also avoided even when factories were selected by requiring the player to press "M" before setting a rally point... simple and effective IMO.

If prefer the Spring way, where the factory in the group is recalled when the group is recalled, and where giving a order change the factory exit point. I'd like it to be kept the way it is.
