If anyone is planning to do some welcome images, please make sure the bottom left corner is dark enough for the text to be clear!

Do you think it's a good idea to deploy this when 0.77 is released? It could work like a bit of promotion if it's done properly. :-)

we could throw an overlay on the welcome image making the bottom left corner dark

is it going to be like a welcome image for every mod with maybe the top right corner of the image a link to said mod?

As long as they don't look completely out of place, some variety is always welcome.

I was just thinking, the images will probably be as diverse as possible(modwise) and you might as well mention the name of the mod so players can actually find them if they're interested, and if you have an image with the name of a mod you might as well be able to click it.

It was a response to smoth.
And I agree with you. It's a good idea and will most probably be part of the final version of the website.

Hehe, well, if it had looked like that when I logged in I would hopefully have noticed. :) Looks like you are seeing the old skin. I forced all users to use the new skin now (were only 8 that did not though).. Does it make a difference?

I'll probably do at least one in that style fairly exactly, then do a bunch of freestyle stuff and play around with things.

If people like 'em, great, if not, oh well. My previous series of banners is a pretty good indication of the variety of images you're likely to see.

In my opinion, the banners and splashes should reflect Spring's diversity, and that means a lot of variety of presentation, imo. The key is keeping certain elements the same, such as borders, so that they don't clash over-much.

Other artists are more than welcome to reject that approach, and make art that's all very standardized around a common palette, etc., but I'm not likely to do that. Nor do I intend to bother with endless revisionism, etc.- we should concentrate on getting lots of stuff done first, imo, and leave "when it's done" to the executing artists, or this will just be an endless circle of stupid, imo, and I will be forced to smack people with anvils from the sky, especially if they're artists who never ever actually participate in these things ;)

@RoflCopter:

I don't suppose you have the PSD around for the banner, with layers intact, still? It'd save me a bit of time, not having to re-create those elements, as the jet's wings interrupt the border gradient, among other things. No sweat if it's no longer extant, I just figured you probably still had it so I thought I'd ask rather than reinventing the wheel...

@Hoi: that's obviously an older version of the database. I assume Fnordia intended to import the current one when it's all complete.

@Fnordia: Do you want me to post banners / splashes here, PM them, or deliver them via that semi-hidden Forum?

I guess you may as well post them directly in that forum if you want, so they will appear in the rotation.

Might be worth giving the forums a colour style update to match the new site; atleast as an option. I'm not sure if the two schemes match particularly well.

:shock: youve added so much pure banners and welcome images that they flood the rest.... i suggest not switching the images based on images but on mods, everyone needs a fair chance (nice banners btw :o )
