Ground plates.

Post by Gota »

I was hoping someone can make ground textures under buildings to appear in different shapes.
something like this:

Would be very cool ot have it for spring.

Er, you do realize we've had that feature for a long time already?

No we have plates for labs..and hwen u have many they dont loo kwell together..I was talking of somthing that looked a bit more naturla..like that...like concrete covering the land around the building..and fades into the ground texture..but it cant loo kthe same under every building..and it needs to be able to join wiht itslef and look good when several buildings are near each other.

And you don't think those two concepts might be the same to the engine?

And apparently I'm an asshole...

@Gota, the groundplate thingies are just an image that gets rendered onto the map texture when a unit utilizing one is built. All that would need to be done is for the plates to be incorporated into the mod and redone. Should be fairly simple to do.

See rattle? Look at this crap. This is what I'm talking about.

Gota, this is your warning. You are rude, aggressive and offensive to your peers across the forum and it appears to stem from ignorance and intent rather than chance. We have tolerated it too much already. KDR addressed your concerns and you lashed out for no reason. We won't tolerate that any longer.

The functionality is one and the same, the issue is in making groundplates to fit together. It is an artistic rather than mechanistic problem. Not that we would see them due to the groundscar crashing problem these days.

We all know about Yan's issues...
just an image that gets put on a quad, which floats on on top of the ground to prevent clipping
fixed (noticed this when using the FPS cam)

Anyway, use alpha.

As a vaguely-related question - has the groundscars-not-rotating when you rotate a building issue been fixed for the next spring version?

How about the groundscars being shifted off centre from the building rather then being cut when you build a structure on the edge of the map?

Some kind of randomized autotiling groundplates. You would probably want to setup some kind of grid on the map and then have buildings fill it in. So one building would be in 1x1, 2x2 etc squares and those would then be filled up with separate groundplates, instead of just having one groundplate at the center of each building.

why dont just draw the plate texture in the ground texture? therefore it will never disappear, and there would be less problems since its just one image which is being drawn + its more realistic they dont disappear when building dies + its faster to render.

though, how it would lag when you update the texture image?

There is no way that would work with spring's tiling system.

oh, because it uses same tiles in different places >_>

though, some maps are using one tile for just one place...
