Congrats aegis, you're an idiot, and did a wonderful job of proving it with those images.

Aegis, did it ever occur to you that you can also adjust browser on fluid width?

Ungh, you're arguing points when you don't even have a clue wtf you're talking about. Good god.

Heh, I'm out of this. Do whatever you like. Arrogant idiots tend to congregate. You completely fail to see the backend of things, which as a coder, is pretty damn pathetic, however, it has been said that coders generally make the worst designers, which is quite true.
so you must be a coder because your webdesign level is pretty low

I think roflcopters logo looks much better than the one with the gradient. It is simple and more effective.

TBH the gradient and glow of the "official" one doesn't look as polished.

Grrr... thanks AF. I just finished re-doing the games page on the NewSpring wiki. Now it's useless if you are going to abandon the project.

On to my personal opinion of what should happen.

I think we should not treat a website redesign as simply putting a new lick of paint on an old ship (yes, the current Spring website is an old ship). We should think seriously about making it easier to maintain and modify as it goes on.

At the moment we have a needlessly complex website system with a html/php front end, a wiki which badly needs feeding, a phpBB messageboard that works, and a bug tracker. Also, the update system for the front page news is a little strange.

This is where AF's site idea comes into play. It is so much easier. DokuWiki has plugins for HTML (for nice pretty front pages) and RSS for quick news updating. This fulfills already the 2 biggest problems. It is a much simpler system, being a wiki with nestled bug tracker and forum sub-systems.

If AF won't do any more work on the NewSpring DokuWiki implementation, someone else will. When I have time I will update the wiki pages, and I beg of someone to implement roflcopter's front page design into it. It is too good an idea to waste simply because the new lick of paint 'looks prettier'.

My implementation is finished. It lacks content. People are saying the implementation isn't finished but tbh this is just a blatant lie probably ue to a lack of lurking.

It doesn't matter what logo people personally choose. Official logo goes on official website. Its that simple and its going to open a huge can of worms if we go against it.

Why has everybody forgotten all the consistency and community effort stuff neuralize spouted now we have a proper logo?

Building a dokuwiki template is very very easy. Its arguably just as easy or easier than wordpress themes. I do not see why fnordia could not have built a dokuwiki theme instead of wasting his time with a media wiki theme. No reason why he couldnt have dne it in svn either, no reason why he couldn't have talked to me about what was happening with my site, there was every reason for him to do it but he went and did the work anyway oblivious to any effort the community had made.

In the mean time. I sent tobi 2 images, which would update the existing site by replacing the banner and the background image. Tobi didnt have the ftp access to apply it however, perhaps fnordia would do it while he's still fiddling with nyspring.clan-sy.com

if you want to replace the wiki with another wiki it's ok but don't replace the full site with a fuckin wiki or a blog

Why not? A blog is can be used to convey important news effectively and quickly to people, not just to provide idiots who can't code html with a soapbox.

Just because AF's site design uses a wiki as a back end doesn't mean that the entire site has to be a wiki. Hell, it can look like a regular web page if you want, and editing can be restricted on the front page. A wiki is very easy to use and update, and can implement all of the functions that the current site has. It is also very easy to expand the site, possibly removing the need to recode the back end of the site for quite a few years, except for DokuWiki and phpBB updates.

He doesn't understand what a CMS is capable of. He doesn't understand that just because the backend may be designed to cater to one thing, it can be used for something entirely different.

There is little point in trying to explain it to him.

Fnordia, you are awesome!
I'm not going to read everything, but if you need anything related to the looks (such as banners, a layout for the other main pages or stuff), tell me.
I'm also not going to discuss anything already discussed here because I don't really know what is going on and my opinion is useless most of the time.

If you want the source files, just ask and I'll upload them somewhere again.

Take care. :-)

The PSD is pretty messy right now, so if you told me exactly what you needed I would try to extract it somehow. :-)
