Re: spring installer
AF,sadly there is no point in your suggestion and u yourself specified why...
Neddie:when i wrote "f bastards" i meant those that would agree with you now cause your a loved member of the community".
I don't know who and when asked for this to be done but when i made a poll about it it went 50-50 and unfortunately Lordmatt cant see the logic of this by himself.
yes there should be boxes with ticking but all should be ticked by default..experienced users when reinstalling would untick all they don't want but noobs will download all mods that Lordmatt thinks should be downloaded which is basically those that their devs win in the popularity contest and or pushed enough in favor of their mod.
(I feel the urge to mention that i PERSONALLY find Lordmatt's favoritism of Ba completely idiotic from all points of view of a mods qualities if its balance gameplay or visual look).

Re: spring installer
If you all can convince tobi that this is a good idea I will make the change.

Re: spring installer
Imo rename "mods" category to "games", and notify the user if there are no games and/or maps selected. A mod suggests modifications to an original game, something optional. If there is a games category the user will hopefully understand he needs at least one of these to actually play something.
However, no need to select any games by default, imo.

Re: spring installer
I would like it tbh.
Include nanoblobs as said default.
Quite some time ago I offered up my patch/autoupdate tools to everyone in the modding community. I also offered up the bandwidth necessary for it.
It uses the clickteam installer, and the clickteam patch maker, both of which are totally free. It's also fully automated. All the user has to do is keep clicking next throughout the process.

Re: spring installer
I suggest that there be a meta option called "TA Suite", that if clicked (or something like that) which selects all the *A mods. One can expand the folder to deselect specific Mods if they wish.
Mainly I don't see the value in giving a "new person" of the obligation/freedom (can't think of a better word) of deciding which *A mods he wants. They're more alike than they are different tbh; preferences in *A mods imo don't come until one is familiar with some of the nuances anyway.
Better it be to "inconvenience" existing players, who know the nuances (and care enough about excluding some) to deselect mods.
Thus it'll be:
*TA Suite
-BA
-NOTA
-XTA
-SA
-MA
-HA
*other Mod 1
*other Mod 2
*other Mod 3

Nanoblobs? Why nanoblobs?Forboding Angel wrote:Include nanoblobs as said default.

Imo the best candidate for a default mod, if you insist on having one, is KP. It features original idea and content (afaik), is easy to learn but hard to master, and has competitive play for those who seek it.
Re: spring installer
There is no need to have more than BA, CA, and XTA in the installer regarding TA mods, as none of the others are played much.
Re: spring installer
sorry, but im not sure about ca and xta, almost nobody plays xta and i think that ca is just too big, and has too much updates what would be good is a auto updater like the ca one(but not from one of the guys who made ca or ba) integrated in the lobby(or we can include springlobby instead of tasclient on spring download) if we do this we should have like no mods selected at all, so there is no epic flamewar about what mod(s) should be included

Because nanoblobs is PD and is an excellent SDK game.
Re: spring installer
Naw, it sucks, visually, and the gameplay is incredibly confusing to nubs, and it has no how-to guide or training missions- it'd be like dropping an anvil on users' heads.
I can't really recommend it at this point, it doesn't represent what Spring can do very well. It was a great "hey, here are CEGs and S3O" demo, back in the day, but that's it.
Maybe it'd be all right, with a graphical cleanup and a trainer, and other fixes that I don't see much point in putting the time into fixing. But even the animation code is horribly outdated, and uses a lot of methods I don't use now.
KP needs a training scenario to teach people how to play it, but it's far better-looking than NB is. Really, go check it out now, it looks very, very dated, next to anything newer.

Re: spring installer
NOTA ties and/or beats XTA being played nowadays, according to recent mod stats...
I was perhaps being too idealistic with the *A mods, and wanted everything to start afresh. I can "get around"/delude myself with other games "Maybe no one likes that type of game", but with *A because they are more the same than they are different etc..
Re KP: Going for it is latest versions are bundled with an AI, along with Teutooni's points. Also, while development on scenarios in spring is bleh, how about a "tutorial widget"? CA iirc has one that pops up a window explaining a unit/building's role when its built and/or certain events happen. KP has very few units, and all their roles have already been documented in the Wiki, so the content for it is there.
