can a building construct multiple units at the same time?

Discuss game development here, from a distinct game project to an accessible third-party mutator, down to the interaction and design of individual units if you like.

Dont make games based on realism, this is the sort of knot you tie yourself in.

All games, even 'realistic' world war 2 ones or such, are an abstraction. The setting is only a context. Make games that are fun to play, not 'realistic'.

exdeath wrote:There is another unrealistic thing in some rts games: Imagine that someone need 10 years training to become a archer and in a rts game you can build a archer in 1 minute. So 1 real-life minute = 10 ingame years. If after you finish this archer you choose them and you send a unit to some place, the distance that this unit will walk in 1 real life minutes is not the same distance that a soldier would walk in 10 real life years.
you are hiring/brining in/equiping an archer not making him.

This kind of realism that I (and the guy that made the post) said before (the ability of making 2 or more units at the same time with only one building) would not be a unfun thing, just a diferent thing from most rts.

it would be more realistic if the units were already trained...i mean a barracks wouldnt make units, it would grab the units from the homeland (planet) and give them briefing or something. same with tanks, the tanks wouldnt be "made," they would be shipped in pieces and the factory basically snaps together the pieces and sends it out there

If you allow concurrent production, why have buildtimes at all?

for units like the vehicles in gundam I would love to make them take a bit longer but cost more. That way people can build an army of them but they are not constantly streaming out but instead come out in bursts.
