Have a look at the original to get the proportions correct.

Also, 123 polies is probably about the same as the OTA one (maybe a bit more). I'd suspect any decent gaat attempt would need to be around the 500 poly mark. You need to bring something to the table, otherwise people will keep using the TA variant.

In future it would be helpful if your preview images contain more model and less black space.

its not really meant to replace the old one, ive keeped it very simple so i can add some stuuf to make it look better later, its also my first try at redoing something and i just posted it for some suggestions, i will continue working on it and will post some more images later, when its better

Hmmm - no... :(
Sorry but what I see is about a 1:1 copy of the original Gaat with some vertices pushed around leading to some proportions not really fitting (imo) and the barrels in fact even have less detail than Cavedog's original (they may be more "round" because of more faces but the barrels' end is like totally missing...

I dont think a 1:1 replica with a little extra detail is either good nor wise.

A reconceptualization/redesign in the style of the unit would be better.

image cropping

Crop your image to the relevant picture. Several large shots where are primarily void are baaaaaaaaaaad.

when posting multiple angles it is easier to do this ^

By making several angles available in one picture you save people the trouble of having a giant tower of pics. Also there is no reason for a giant picture of your unit unless the geometry is significantly complex.

It is just a re-make, like Mr D's, only not as good and this one is pretty much the same heh.

Can I have a specific example of what has been "remade"? Also, I believe a "remake" is supposed to have something that is radically new and awesome about it. I just do not see it. hmh... its core anyway. Arm already has that awesome HLT in XTA.

The model presented in the pics looks like the same model as the Original, nothing changed from what I could see..

Try adding in some detail to the model instead of doing a 1:1 clone.

If it ends up looking like something completely different thats good too, but the subtle parts of the HLT such as the triple barrel that would rotate would be a good design element to try and maintain while remaking a "new" HLT model.

It looks like its going to snap into two pieces at the neck with the head of the turret plummeting down at the front

Well as suggestion on what you've done so far I'd say you can delete those dividing edges in the middle of the barrels because they are kinda superfluous imo. I don't see any change in barrel width between beginning and end and so you just can have you polygons run right to the end instead of dividing them again in the middle. You probably also could reduce polies in that section where the barrel itself goes into that "spiky" ending thingy but I can't really say much about that part as it's small in your image...

Apart from that...
Well especially when you redo such an extreme low poly model you have to add more detail, realism or whatever. You don't have any really increased detail except for some minor things on the barrels (the rest still is the same like that 5-point polygon that makes up the turret's front and you didn't add any "realism" (i.e. as AF said the turret still looks like a melon on a toothpick which is about to break)...

Well I might give a shot at the Gaat too as I already have an idea for it and am learning UV-mapping and texturing anyway right now...
