Need help, new to making units for Spring.

Post by lammas »

So I have made a model.
Image
The goal is to have a plow like unit that could crush wrecks, small T1 units like Peewee, Flash, Jeffy etc. and DT. It should also be deployable as a radar. (the back opens up and a radar dish pops out, the unit cant move while radar is out.) The unit is unarmed.
My question: Is the UV mapping done right? Also need a guide what to do next.

Well this all is possible - for that "plowing feature" you just have to check which movement class you gave / will give to it and make sure it has some crushstrength (you'll find the groups in the moveinfo.tdf)...

That extending of the radar dish and getting immobile all can be done in the unit's script but I don't know if you have any experience on that sector...

100% no experience at all.

Your UVMap needs work. Let me guess - nearly every rectangle is it's own, seperate object on the unwrapped map, right? It works better if contiguous regions on the model are wrapped by connected parts of the map. This way, when painting, you can paint the whole region instead of poly-by-poly.

Without seeing the UV map I can't tell you anything.

You just take the UV-map to the 2D painting software of your choice and paint the texture. Now please don't ask how to do that - you can write entire books about texturing...

If you just want to know how to get that UV-map out of Wings (I think you're using it) I'd suggest you ask Google about it - there are tons of tutorials out there (although I think it worked via the Outliner but it's quite a while since I used wings). You'll also learn how to properly unwrap you model in those tuts...

you need to post the uvmap, http://spring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtop ... =14&t=6015 just read it, this will explain what you need and what you need to do and this http://spring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtop ... 14&t=13034 will also help you(especially the upspring part)

about the uvmap, i assume you know how to use wings remember ALL parts the you are going to animate need to be a seperate object

Practice UV mapping first, then painting.

I like the idea, I assume it is for an *A content package of some sort, or possibly CA?

Is there actually a way of making a unit climb over wreckages?Like the spiders in OTA mods.

The spiders would be very easy. Something like a bulldozer... not so much.
