Re: Random WIP
A lil' update:
Its name will be Lacerator(the QW:ET strogg gun).
I'll tex it and script it.
It looks like this currently(the black area is a inverted surface, should look normal in Spring, and yes, I suck at texturing
), it is not the final texture:

UVs and normals need to be improved
Wait... 3do?

Re: Random WIP
Yeah, it looks more core like now, although I did like the original slim version in its own way.
The increased bulk makes it look a lot more like a warrior although I'm still not sure that the guns are quite right for that.
Otherwise, if it's a new unit, what sort of abilities and niche are you aiming for?

Its s3o, I just suck at texturing
Maybe a fire support unit of some kind?
A T2 EMG troop for the 3rd side in CA.
It is up to the modder, to decide, what to do with it really.
I could make a slim light variant too, if anyone is interested...

Re: Random WIP
No, I think he just pasted a tiling texture onto something that wasn't unwrapped nicely- you can clearly see that the textures aren't all horribly distorted, like 3DOs are, but it looks like the various bits weren't unwrapped and kept stitched to one another. Oh well, he'll learn how to do it in time, this was his first attempt.rattle wrote:UVs and normals need to be improved

Re: Random WIP
You are quite correct
I remade my UV, does it look correct?

Re: Random WIP
yikes, no. You have overlapping UV areas, horrible space utilization and probably more seams than you need.

Re: Random WIP
The M-77 ├óÔé¼╦£Toasty├óÔé¼Ôäó Mech, with dual flamethrowers. Designed by Luther Arcwhite and his wife for the Oakwood Corporation, the Toasty is generally used to cut off roads and forests (by setting them on fire) and destroy buildings at close range. It has an armoured fuel tank and uses a special type of propellant that will not be ignited by conventional arms fire, to prevent accidental detonation during combat, but the ├óÔé¼╦£Toasty├óÔé¼Ôäó still has lighter armour than most mechs simply to reduce the weight and allow it to be airdropped into combat (an ability that can allow them to close with enemy mechs and engage, though this is generally only ever used in dire situations when no more suitable mechs are available). The fact that not only are it├óÔé¼Ôäós flamethrowers exposed, they also take up the entire side of the head means that it├óÔé¼Ôäós primary weapons are prone to being damaged to disabled with depressing regularity. Despite this, the Toasty is (ironically) often considered the most reliable light mech in terms of stability and the possibility of overloading.

Re: Random WIP
Say, can anyone suggest a good, free UVing program? I'm having some trouble with the wings3d one:

It's cut correctly, but the wings uv'er is stumbling over it.
EDIT: It also seems to be warping heavily with other parts on closer inspection. I think the uv'er is having difficulty due to the model's complexity...

Re: Random WIP
You shouldn't depend on the auto-unwrapper, use Project-Unfold in face mode on a single face in the UV mapper to redo the layout of an UV isle.
You can also use it on multiple faces, for example the five faces on top of it. Though'd cut the stuff on the side off first, then reproject both isles, Scale -> Normalize them and stitch them back together. Also the flatten X/Y tool is quite handy to align some vertices here and there.
The Snap Image tool under Tools is quite useful too if you want to project a number of faces from the current camera (align the camera to either axis for a planar projection).

Re: Random WIP
restitching and projected normals/camera is bad. I wouldn't say it has issues with unwrapping as much as it is just that you need to learn where to make your cuts.
Projection still causes warping and I avoid it. I general break it up as much as I can to avoid distortion.

Re: Random WIP
when I first saw it, I thought it was a sort of mortar that shot from that barrel on its back, the arms really look more like stumps than flamethrowers.

Re: Random WIP
Thanks rattle! I've got it working now. Had to cut, Project-unfold and restitch a few times (ie twice), but I got it working.
@Machio: I actually have several of those designs. There's one whose back is pretty much one big rotary grenade launcher / mortar / minigun.

Re: Random WIP
Smoth: you should try the project unfold command, it's in the context menu within the unwrapper when a face is selected in face mode. Yes it reprojects along the normal of the selected face(s), but when your cuts are right the layout will be flat.
Re: Random WIP
the layouts are flat as it is rattle. you have seen my textures and models.

Re: Random WIP
Okay, this is the UV map. It's big because I'll scale it down later. Everything look okay, I haven't really made any UV maps, just read a few tutorials and seen how others did it...
