Dark Side of the Spring

This is a little bitty game about lasers and mirrors (actually pointers) and prisms. I don't really plan on doing any more with this, but I guess if something totally broken is discovered (I mean makes game unplayable, not a cool trick), I'll fix it.

You have a source:
Image which fires white beams non-stop.

It can build Mirrors:

and Prisms:

Mirrors redirect anything they are hit with to their current heading. Prisms split white beams into 6 colors, or redirect colored beams along a fixed path. The goal of the game is to redirect your laser into the enemy source long enough to kill it.

Every time a prism or mirror is hit by a laser, it gets a bit hotter (takes damage). They auto-cool well enough to deal with a single white beam, but any more and they start to overheat. Use other mirrors to repair and help "cool" hot mirrors.

Mirrors can "cool" things near them at a very high rate, and you can not build near the enemy commander.

Colored beams do 100 damage, white beams do 200. So 'focusing' 2 or more colored beams into a single mirror can allow for large damage potential. Also, if you aim carefully, beams can be 'doubled', allowing you to multiply your firepower.

A loop!

bumpity bump. anyone have things they think should change? I was toying with the idea of making all the mirrors mobile and building them at the source instead, but that seemed like it could get complex in a hurry.

Well, aiming seems broken in the latest version somehow, mirrors are really reluctant to turn and it's more common to have them not turn than to have them turn. Even worse if you try to aim stuff at your own mirrors, often I have to make the source aim near a mirror and hope the shots hit the mirror because that seems to be the only way to make it obey. Some people have resorted to using FPS mode to do the turning. Stangely I don't think that happened nearly as often in 0.2.

Light Side uses a Lua custom command to handle rotating, that might work better than trying to deal with the quirks of Spring's attack command handling.

Also I occassionally see beams hit a mirror but not get forwarded, seems to happen especially with prism beams. I think that's caused by the mirror hitsphere not covering the whole footprint.
