Does unit transformation/morphing/whatever work yet?

Post by Caydr »

I remember the last time I was working on AA there was this big push about having units that could transform, ie, you build armalab and you get armalab2 by clicking a particular button.

Did that ever pan out?

You want the morph gadget, CA currently uses it.

KP has fairly seamless morphing on the bug arty if you mean unit transformations (unfolding into a plane?) instead of morphing into something completely different.

Seriously Caydr, you should try playing some mods before you ask what the engine can do.

Evo units morph at will to the level 2 versions of themselves, CA units morph with experience to similar, better units. I'm confused as to why the difference is something to mock. Note that both games only let you morph to units you can also build.

Where did that come from...

Anyway, caydr the files you want are

luarules\gadgets\unit_morph.lua
and
luarules\configs\morph_defs.lua

Since you aren't familiar with it I figured it would help to know the paths

Is there a way to integrate morphing better in spring? For instance a morphing builder will still show as idle, there is noe easy way to check how many ressources all the morphings are currently costing you, no way to cancel the morphing of all units, or only one kind of them, etc...
This would be especially great for the aliens in EE.

Thanks for the answers. The reason I don't just look for myself is, if I did, I'd probably want to start actively modding again, and I don't want to start that until I have time to really get serious. I'm gathering information right now from a variety of sources, making plans for the future.

Thanks, this will be very helpful.

Can morphing be made to cost resources, mimicking construction?
Can units morph like this: Unit A morphs into unit B, morphs into unit C, morphs into unit A, all having different weapons and statistics and, for instance, unit B cannot morph into unit A?
Can buildings morph?

Play CA.. they have all the answers to your questions.

Morphs in CA cost M/E. In CA again, a peewee can morph into either a Zipper or a Warrior. I think that answers you second question. And the Geo plants in CA can morph. Towers can also morph, given that they have enough experience.

In XTA the commander morphs and that costs resources.

Also, the comm can morph second time and etc. based on experience (you need some experience before it can go to L3)
