Re: P.U.R.E. 0.55
I think you're right - besides the general construction (bird leg, horizontal torso/cockpit, twin cuboid missile launchers elevated behind/above the shoulders, always-forward arms, etc) the bulging calves are the only distinct remnant. Perhaps an even-less-cuboid launcher might help, but I think that's all you could do without completely changing the structure of the mech.
One big problem is that Battletech had so damned many mechs that you'd probably look similar to one of their mechs with most headless designs.
For example - you tilt the cockpit/torso module downwards and integrate the twin missile racks into the sides of the torso instead of tacking them on as a separate module, and suddenly you have the Vulture mech.
Still, the Mad Cat is one of their most recognizable staples. On the other hand, Battletech started out by ripping off other mechs, so they're hardly unique there.

I'd say one should think 'make it better' instead of 'make it more different'. If it looks very similar then so be it, there's no reason to change a good design just to stay away from looking the same.

Re: P.U.R.E. 0.55
Close, but not just that. Its because the general silhouette of the design mirrors the Battletech design quite closely, even more so if you're talking about the re-imagined versions found in MW:Dark Age. Detailing does little to mask the similarities in a case like this.2. I think it's interesting that the design of the calves makes that connection for people, even though very little else substantially resembles that design at this point.
Another example is the Spherebot/Patlabor Brocken similarities.
That aside, I think it looks nice despite (or because of??) the resemblance.
Re: P.U.R.E. 0.55
True enough. That said, it should pass muster as not remotely infringing copyright, which was my main concern.Close, but not just that. BTW, sorry about the Beta release delay, folks. My machine's been giving me trouble getting the uploads to my website. Hopefully I'll get this resolved tomorrow afternoon.

The Beta is now starting. If you wished to participate, but I either didn't send you an invite, or you forgot to let me know you'd like to participate, please PM me or post here, as of about 45 minutes from now (to allow me to finish the beta PM announcements and send, and the wait for all of the PMs to be delivered, etc.).
Beta testers, please reply to my questionnaire, etc., via PM only at this time.

Re: P.U.R.E. 0.55
OK.
Im getting a weird bug.
All the map turns black with dots in ranodm places. The units remain with their own textures but the map is black.
Maybe it has someting to do wit halt tab?
resistance choppers are kinda choppy, with very sharp movement.Dont feel like choppers.
The over mind music track is very disturbing IMO i tihnk you should smooth it down with less skreching. Its cool at first but gets annoying real fast. Also At some point there are a few soconds of just what appeared ot be noize...like zhhhhhhhh with minor changes.
Very annoying.
Is that the music or a unit movement sound?
resistance grouping is cool but...i tihnk you need ot make theleader be inside a mech or something.and why cant i group other stuff ^^?
The leader runs too far forwardand when selecting multiplay marine groups i think the leader needs to stand out so if he is in a mech it would be easier to asses group numbers with a single glance.
Some lua problems with trails while playing overmind.
In general very atmospheric and cool.
I have to say though andiv said it earlier, the big numbers on costs and buildtimes and so forth, they are annoying and takes time to read them.
I think making numbers smaller would help or maybe write them liek this : 50k + 500. like that..takes time to read all those zeroes.
these are all just impressions from a few test plays with bots...
as soon as i get someone to play vs me ill try and add stuff if there is anything to add.

Gota, please read the entire PM I sent out... then report the bugs in the appropriate threadAll the map turns black with dots in ranodm places. The units remain with their own textures but the map is black.

And it looks like, whether or not I want to, I'm going to have to mess with Spring's underlying UI. I'd forgotten about the team-list, among other things. Drat.
Re: P.U.R.E. 0.55
k,fuck bugs i see that bug has already been reported.
WOuld be cool if the anciant relics would make a sound when working.
Im not sure if this should go here but,at moments, afeter i move the camera to a different position the rain seems to restart which looks dumb cause it ust seems like the rain starts and stops all the time.

Re: P.U.R.E. 0.55
Looks pretty cool. One thing I noticed though is the missile trail looks too orange, it should look just fine if it matched the explosion's colour.
Re: P.U.R.E. 0.55
I suppose I could fix the missile trails to look like the explosions, but tbh, I'm a bit concerned about having everything look the same- it's a gameplay issue in terms of recognizing what's going on, to some extent. I'll think about various solutions, it may be better to use a different color entirely, so that people don't feel that it's "off" so much as "completely different".
Oh yeah, and beta-testers... I am aiming for release of the next beta round within a week or so. Please respond, per the instructions in the beta release notes (Gota, that means you- read the directions, lol) by then, so that I have time to try and fix as many bugs as possible by the next release.

Re: P.U.R.E. 0.55
Mega cool, pitty i haven't had time to actually do any beta testing yet

Re: P.U.R.E. 0.55
Yeah, it's roughly to scale, like everything else is. I wanted it to be a big, bad mecha, and it works pretty well. Nowhere near balanced, or anything, it's using some stock guns for now.1) Bigger than I was expecting
Better hurry up. I wasn't kidding- people who don't turn in the information requested don't get to see further betas. Thus far, I've had a pretty decent response, but I'm still awaiting further feedback, and am fixing some bugs this week.Mega cool, pitty i haven't had time to actually do any beta testing yet
