The binary did not work for me, crashes instantly if started as is.

The crash log (accessible through Console):

Thread 0 Crashed:
0 <<00000000>> 0x00000000 0 + 0
1 com.clan-sy.spring.Spring 0x0036371a LuaOpenGL::Init() + 58
2 com.clan-sy.spring.Spring 0x003f2188 SpringApp::Initialize() + 1080
3 com.clan-sy.spring.Spring 0x003f295b SpringApp::Run(int, char**) + 59
4 com.clan-sy.spring.Spring 0x003f3040 Run(int, char**) + 48
5 com.clan-sy.spring.Spring 0x0018050b -[SDLMain

(looks like call through invalid vtable.)

Mac Mini, Intel Core Duo 1.83 GHz, graphics chipset Intel GMA 950 , using 64mb of of memory as VRAM.

I'll try to make my own build later on and get more detailed information.

Thanks for the binary.

Hey all,

I'm unsure how to actually start the Mac version of Spring. I've got Spring-0.76b1+5552 with the mod Balanced Annihilation 621 and the map Supreme Battlefield in the folders "mods" and "maps" respectively. I'm pretty sure I'm just not starting it up right, but even the Wiki isn't much help for me.

1) If I start Spring up by double-clicking on the "Spring" icon, the screen goes black, and then Spring quits back to the finder with a general error message.

2) If I open up Terminal and enter "Contents/MacOS/Spring" and press return, the same thing happens:

my-macbook:~ me$ /Users/me/Desktop/Spring/Spring.app/Contents/MacOS/Spring
Bus error

How exactly do I even get Spring to run? :-)

How come the latest Mac binary doesn't look like the windows binary? Build colors are blue in the windows version and also has widgets. The Mac binary has green build colors and no widgets. What am I missing?

the widgets can be enabled in the config file. regarding the build color...dunno, i suppose that they change per mod basis and on os x some colors doesn't display as expected, at least on my system.

Is copying the config file from the windows release a good idea? I just started playing spring a few days ago, so where is the config file?

i don't thik it's possible. the os x config file is ~/Library/Preferences/com.clan-sy.spring.Spring.plist, on windows the settings are stored in the registry, if i remember right.

or maybe not? dunno, but storing the settings in the registry would not make the game "portable" on an external device├óÔé¼┬ª

anyway, on windows it definitively doesn't use a .plist xml file├óÔé¼┬ª

Settings stored in the registry? That is really stupid. I don't believe that that is where the config data is stored. If it is, ouch :cry: .

EDIT: I didn't mean that to sound as rude as it did :oops:

I guess the best way then is to extract them with RegEdit. Darn.

Spring works fine for me right out of the box. My system is PowerBook G4 1.25GHz (and it is actually playable!) Could it be an Intel problem?

I'm using a mac with:
* Intel Core 2 Duo
* binary compiled from rev 5552
* 10.5.3
, and it works well for me.

I haven't tried changing the settings yet so the graphics still suck. Is the mac port still using a .plist file?
Are their any AI binarys (for mac) up?

I have AAI and KAI that came with the binary download. I have copied settings from the registry of the windows version and have converted them to a plist. I have tested the settings with the plist and they work great. File here. Just drop it into ~/Library/Preferences/

OK. So if Spring works for some of you, could you please post detailed explanation how to install it? I downloaded binary, but mods and maps folder are empty. I guess I need to download desired maps and mods. I couldn't find any mac mod, but downloaded map.

AFAIRemember, playing Spring on normal PC didn't require any mod initially, which I had to choose after the game loaded... however I might be mistaken it was quite a long time ago.

So... detailed how to how to install Spring TA on mac would be great.

Thanks,
K

Mods can be found here: http://spring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Mods
Just scroll down to where it says "Where to download Mods" and download something. If you use Balanced Annihilation V6.21 then you will need to open up Spring.app and go to Spring.app/Contents/Resources/AI/AAI/cfg/mod/ and copy or rename BA591.cfg to BA621.cfg. You will then be able to use AAI with Balanced Annihiliation.

Install instructions:
1) Get a binary install of spring, or compile it yourself
2) Get a copy of the base and put it in base. Should include:
otacontent.sdz
spring/bitmaps.sdz
springcontent.sdz
tacontent_v2.sdz
tatextures_v062.sdz
can be found at http://spring-portal.com/index.php/docm ... ew/40-misc

3) Get a working mod. You can probably find one at http://spring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtop ... 14&t=12789

4) Get a working map. You can probably find one at http://spring-portal.com/index.php/docm ... ew/35-maps

5) If you have an nVidia 8 series and plan to use dynamic water, their is a bug that has been fixed in SVN. If you have streaky dynamic water, read this http://spring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtop ... 77#p263177

At this point spring should work, and be using the default settings.

Look in this thread for discusion about .plist files to change the settings.

AI's won't be installed.

you may try to run it as root.

recently, the team assignement shortcuts (ctrl-number) stopped working in all my users (including new ones) but root (launching the game with sudo is enough, no need to do a full login).

superuser mode for game launching does not help. Same 'Bus error' problem.

I will try to install everything what you provided, now I'm at work and do not have really a time to test it. Will let you know later.

Cheers,
