HELP TA DEMO REPLAYER 0.99B and vista

Post by elloco »

Is there a way to make the replayer works with Windows Vista?

Any help, much appreciated,

Because everything works beautifully in ultimate 64bit. It is positively the most kick ass OS I have come across.

Oh btw, every 16 bit program I have tried in it works perfectly, and if you use dosbox, you can literally run anything dos based thru it perfectly, unlike the spotty performance I got with dosbox+xp pro.

It's just that good tbh.

That's very odd, considering they removed the 16 bit subsystem entirely. I would expect that to make compatibility worse, not better :P

I'm not sure what the hell you're implying here, if it is that DOSBox runs better in 64 bit Vista, I found that to be very, very false.

One would think.

Also when I went to ultimate 64bit my fps in every 3d game I play normally, doubled.

Ask in the spring lobby, they were there for it, I was going ape shit.

Dosbox does run better in vista than in xp:

I somehow doubt this person is going to spend $200 on Ultimate just for the TADR.

Is that some heavy sarcasm or do you actually believe yourself?

I did do a clean install of Vista, and not a single program ran notably better. Maybe you were running an outdated version of DOSBox and you updated to the newer faster version of it or something.

Still, the lack of 16 bit application support makes 64 bit Vista not worth it. Can you honestly think of a life without Chip's Challenge, SkiFree, Go Figure, JezzBall, Rodent's Revenge, Klotski, Rattler Race, Pipe Dreams, Stones, Tetravex, etc? If so, you have no soul.

Also Vista's horrible for Total Annihilation in general, CD audio doesn't switch tracks properly so you'll need a workaround for that, and the expansion installers are 16 bit, so if you have 64 bit Windows, you'll have to workaround that...

I see 16bit installers as more of a sign of negligence on cavedogs behalf than a sign of microsofts poor support. I wasn't even aware 64bit processors supported 16bit programs, and that they ran then in emulators in software at the OS level.

Perhaps we should rail XP for its lack of 8bit support.

Except I assume 8 bit programs can be emulated perfectly, it's not quite that convinient with 16 bit programs. That is a huge compatibility issue for most 64 bit versions of Windows, and the performance increase just isn't worth it for giving up that amount of compatibility.

It isn't just the Total Annihilation expansion installers, there's lots of other 32 bit programs that use 16 bit installers.

System specs please?

Which Vista version? If it's not 64bit ultimate then I don't even want to hear it. If you're running 32bit vista you should shoot yourself for being an idiot.

Actually, a more accurate rating of system settings would prolly be to ask you what setting you run spring at :-)

Also, if you aren't using vista sp1, you fail. Period.

I'm jsut riding you because I think you're full of bockmist.

Yeah, I'm totally going to provide the system specs for both my new and old computer as if it had any relevance to your lie about getting TWICE the FPS in all games, which is about as close to "bockmist" as you can get.

I'll tell you that I run Spring at full settings though, and that I did try both 32 and 64 bit versions of Vista with SP1 (well not with SP1 on my old computer), 64 bit failed in both compatibility and lack of notable speed increases over 32 bit. 32 bit was decent I suppose, but I'm waiting for Windows 7 with upgrading from XP, as the Vista version of Windows Explorer is shit.

Which is probably why showcasing improvements on it was one of the first things they did with Windows 7.

Concerning framerate, I can fairly easily prove it.

The fact that you won't provide specs pretty much tells that I was right about you being full of crap.

My specs:
Turionx2 3ghz
2gig ocz ddr2 (dual channel)
7600gtx (22 pixel pipelines so it does quite nicely with FPS games as well) 640mhz core clock, memory clock is 800mhz iirc, 512 gddr3 800mhz ramdacs.

Ok, so why are there TONS of people sticking with XP for the sole reason of performance if Vista gets twice the FPS?

Yeah I'm running Spring at full settings, shadows and everything, but my computer is too weak for the allmighty Vista. Yeah, screw you Vista, you're an operating system, not Crysis. If you honesty think that's the case, any remotely intelligent person would see that you're actually calling Vista a REALLY REALLY crappy OS.

Again, your argument quite frankly sucks. I think Vista's a great OS, I really do, but I think Vista doesn't need this amount of false advertising, not even to cover for all the false anti-Vista advertising.
