SPOT choosing - no smurfs
Hi there!
Playing few games today, I think I've found quite nice idea. I mean, lets make higher ranks choose their spot (spawn point) first. Because of at least 2 things that came to my mind:
1. It will propably eliminate quite a lot of smurfs, cuz everyone has its favourite spot
2. It will eliminate situation, when noob or useless player take crucial spots on the map (like water in small islands or North DSD spots etc)
What do u think guys?

Sounds interesting :) Tough it probally should only go up to rank four, as I think that beyond that the skill level regarding rank isnt that significant.
Re: SPOT choosing - no smurfs
I'd be glad to see like 40-50 ranks. lets see more different ranks.

I like the current situation where fastest comps get first choice of spots.

The aim of team games is to work as a team so you should plan your startspots and what you're going to do.

I like that idea.
Re: SPOT choosing - no smurfs
Player one picks a start spot which happens to be player two's start spot, P2 puts his start right next to P1, dguns him and ragequits.

Heheh, like that doesn't happen right now.KDR_11k wrote:Player one picks a start spot which happens to be player two's start spot, P2 puts his start right next to P1, dguns him and ragequits.
Re: SPOT choosing - no smurfs
I want to know why players have "favorite spots" can someone tell me?
Re: SPOT choosing - no smurfs
Because most mods/maps are non-obvious on what paths will impede or block movement at first glance, and what hills will be in range of what terrain, and so on. As such, players learn entirely by doing instead of examining the area beforehand. This means that, in order to not completely suck, you must stay in the realm of existing experience.smoth wrote:I want to know why players have "favorite spots" can someone tell me?
In short: BA gameplay is so opaque that, if you try something new every game, you'll never win.
Hence, not only playing BA:DSD over and over again, but even using the same start spots since half the players can't handle the plateaus and get confused by that dip in the middle, and the other half get pwned when dealing with the mass flashspam of the ocean floor.
Similar conditions exist on Altored Divide.

Re: SPOT choosing - no smurfs
Its easier for you to take your favorite spot because you know the terrain well and are used to the amount of metal you will get. Additionally it makes the game more comparable to previous ones because you know where you normally will encounter the enemy. So you will know better if you are doing well and you know better what you are doing wrong. Thats why I like to start at a position I started some times before. It is all based on laziness in the endsmoth wrote:I want to know why players have "favorite spots" can someone tell me?

Re: SPOT choosing - no smurfs
I think that the suggested feature would help planning the placement of players, since noobs couldnt just lighting place their point somewhere randow and smash "ready".
My dilema with chosing spots is that I like to and play more in porc positions (those places where you dont have to defend ourself directly from the enemy and can focus on attacking or helping the team) but I know that if I go in a porc position and then some noob goes in the front, we lose...

Actually I find it exactly opossite. Lets take that boring DSD f.x. - if bad player takes front position, he will get help from porc positions occupied by experienced players. If noob takes porc position, hes not helping team, hes not teching properly, hes doing nothing, and definetly hes not learning anything back there, without enemies.manored wrote:

Re: SPOT choosing - no smurfs
Nonsense, can't you see those five metal-makers and his stalling attempt to make a Krogoth gantry? And he sent a whole 7 gators to the front line. 7! He's got the game all sown up, just you wait. Oh, damn - somehow the front line got overwhelmed and took out his base. Obviously, it's your fault you didn't buy him enough time for that Krog. That totally was going to win the game.bartofslaves wrote: Actually I find it exactly opossite. Re: SPOT choosing - no smurfs
Well people who go in porc positions should try to attack the enemy in ways diferent than those who are in the front, such as massive early raiding and air attacks, as then the enemy will not be especting that attack and his defense wont be as good. And if they just help front expand the positions will end up being inverted, that is, the porcer will move to expander and the noob expander will porc.bartofslaves wrote:Actually I find it exactly opossite.
