Default Chat Settings

Post by B.62 »

The default chat-setting after having pressed enter should include the "a:".
Its no use at all chatting with enemy and noone will do this till the game does not require his attention/micro. thats different with ally chat which does of course often include tacticall advices or stuff relevant for the game. therefor chatting with allies very quick is often important, while chatting with enemy its never a matter of seconds.
Gamer are used to chat to allies only normally in several common games and at places like battle.net anyway. This should be regarded.
thx in adv, B.62

alt enter makes every comment after ally chat, shift enter every comment after spectator chat, and ctrl enter returns it to standard if either of the others have been applied.

And the rationale for those bindings...

Alt+Enter -> Ally
Shift+Enter -> Spectators
Ctrl+Enter -> Clear

Also note that you can switch the chat mode
using those three keysets even after you
have started to type the message (assuming
that you've got the standard key bindings).

The Shift+Enter thing shits me though; I capitalise what I am writing automatically, so I typically have my hand on shift before I hit enter. It's just not a very good button to pick when involved with text. Is it possible to alter this on my end?

I'm commands like .kick and .take should function from a: as normal commands. Its annoying to have to switch out of a: and .kick and .take often require split second reaction time.

IMO, there should be a button that does it for you, and it should be kept on the old system. Attributing new hotkeys to GUI elements is the last thing spring needs. The ability to easily create custom key set ups to profiles, through lua for example, awesome, great, sure, but undocumented hot keys make the game alot harder for new players to pick up.

I agree with the button comment, but this new method is a usability flaw, and it is a new flaw.

We should have kept the old behaviour of using what was used last and then added this to it rather than replacing it, as it was much more user friendly, whereas we've now replaced it with a hidden feature nobody knows about unless told.

Personally, I much preferred the old system. A bit of onscreen documentation at the "say" prompt was all it needed - this new buckybits idea was clever, but a bit of a misfeature as I use it accidentally more often than deliberately (what, you expect me to ever let go of the shift/ctrl keys? This is Spring, remember?)
