Since there are probably other people who are asking the same thing...
1- I assume parts that are intended to move separately once you get to spring should be modeled as separate objects? Given that, how do I get them all to use the same UV map? I worked through Snipas tutorial, but I'm stuck when it comes to multi part objects.
2- Let's assume you have an edge that is at an angle, and you want to Cut that edge, and then slide the point along the edge. How? Short of doing the trigonometry myself and moving the point in absolute space, how do I do this?
3- Should I move the entire multi-part model so that 0,0 is about at the center-bottom of the thing once I'm done, or should I do that in Upspring?
4- How many parts are needed for a sort-of-okay looking walk sequence? I don't need super niceness - is base, thighs, calves, feet enough or do I need more?
Thanks in advance.

May as well do it in upspring...it's pretty much the only transformation that's not broken3- Should I move the entire multi-part model so that 0,0 is about at the center-bottom of the thing once I'm done, or should I do that in Upspring?

That should be ok, but make sure the torso and pelvis separate, unless you like a design that can't aim sideways.4- How many parts are needed for a sort-of-okay looking walk sequence? I don't need super niceness - is base, thighs, calves, feet enough or do I need more?
Re: Various Wings3D questions
The easiest way is to combine all objects(it is an option in the right click menu). Then separate them and then combine the objects that you want to be together as an object in the hierarchy.Erom wrote:1- I assume parts that are intended to move separately once you get to spring should be modeled as separate objects? 1-0 will cut the edge into that many edges complete with vertices. You can also use the connect option in on of the menus at the top of wings to create a vertex and then connect it to another vertex if you want.Erom wrote:2- Let's assume you have an edge that is at an angle, and you want to Cut that edge, and then slide the point along the edge. I just do it in upspring.Erom wrote:3- Should I move the entire multi-part model so that 0,0 is about at the center-bottom of the thing once I'm done, or should I do that in Upspring?
groin, thigh, shin, foot for lower torso.Erom wrote:4- How many parts are needed for a sort-of-okay looking walk sequence? I don't need super niceness - is base, thighs, calves, feet enough or do I need more?

Re: Various Wings3D questions
2 to 0 actually, 1 to 9 cuts1-0
Re: Various Wings3D questions
right, what rattle said, sorry erom, just a bit pissy today.
Re: Various Wings3D questions
Thanks guys! Appreciate you taking the time.
I actually knew how to cut - apparently I'm not explaining my problem thoroughly enough.
Let's say you have an edge that connects a point at 1,1,1 to a point at 2,2,5
Then you cut that edge into two sections. You now have a point at the midpoint of the line.
Now I want to move that point along the line to about 20% of the way from 1,1,1 to 2,2,5 instead of 50%. I can obviously do the trigonometry, but I am certain the computer must be able to do this for me.

Re: Various Wings3D questions
20% you can make 5 cuts in that direction and take the first vertex of the 5, deleteing the rest. If you need to move it and want to move it along a specific direction you can begin to move it then hit the tab key. From there you can type in the exact direction.
Re: Various Wings3D questions
When you turn on the advanced functions in the preferences, then the RMB function of Move will allow you to pick an axis by selecting vertices, edges or faces to move, what ever you have selected, along.
Also for edges there is the slide command. It either works absolute, as in move by 50% or by value as in 1.75. The status bar tells you about the available hotkeys to change modes. By turning freeze off you can move an edge without having it change direction (you'll see what I mean).
