That's not entirely true. Many of the other Games for spring have much to offer as well. The only thing is they are usually 1 - 2 man projects instead of the army that is working on stuff for CA.

I am making a mod that completely shoves textures out the window, and replaces them with 100% reflectivity. What now!

That should be the default mod. Ill also add an improved mouse trail script, some tooltips that pop up every 2 minutes to reminding you to tech up, a nice build menu that is 3 dimensional, and is constantly spinning so you can see all the units that you dont want to make, a custom AI that cheats in krogoths, a custom commander that bears my shapely helmet, and of course, the commander nametags script, without which I could not live. This is obviously the ideal mod.
