Need help with bryce: imported heightmap and greyscale

Post by Marmoth »

Hello all,

I tried to use Bryce (6.1). Its potential to create very nice textures pleased me a lot, but i am experiencing problem with heightmap import. In fact, it seems that the heightmap loses its grey precision, like if there was much less than 255 different greys (i verified that this problem is absent in the original image).

This makes quite ugly "stairs" that shouldn't be here.

How can i avoid this effect, am i doing something wrong:

I click on the load button on the first image, choose my .bmp greyscale image, choose white for the 2nd image to combine, then "blend" and adapt blend to the overall height difference i want to get.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Marmoth

PS: in attachment, some pictures of my problem.

I found the problem: bryce 6 has some problems with importing 8 bit greyscale. Either use 16 bit greyscale or png.
