Old Games Database?

Post by TheBigPK »

I've been trying to find a website (not warez or roms) that has a database of old psx/n64/snes etc games so I could figure out the names of a few I played back then so I can try and scoop them off ebay. Anyone know of such a place? I was trying 1up but the search doesn't work well when you don't have a name...

I think that having n64 roms that you dont have on a computer and playing in a emulator is already legal since they dont make nor sell n64 anymore. Not sure about snes, since it seens they still make and sell some games and consoles, tough I am not sure.

It's always illegal to play games you haven't legally purchased regardless of if they still are being sold or not.

Not particularly immoral, but yes, it's illegal if someone still holds the rights.

Just for Info, Roms can rot, so can the original hardware. There is a Gamesmuseum in Berlin whos "Kurrator"(sort of exhibition/collector) told me something about it. So you better copy the stuff befor it´s to late. You might not know, but some Games are already lost because Chips don´t stand Time as good as Egypt Papyrus.

There is also the Trouble of Emulatorchains.. just imagine Dosbox would stop developing one day - so you would need a winxpsimulator to get dosboxemulate dos.. a emulator, emulating a emulator, emulating... and so down. Combine that with the usual bugs and you have a modern museums nightmare..

But it is the "no one cares" kind of illegal :)

Not to play (playing doesn't require that it's your game, system, etc) but you are not allowed to make copies, whether you own the game or not.

You don't hold the copyright and it won't be in public domain for decades so its illegal to make any copies of these games without permission of the copyright holder(s). However, I don't think anyone is going to hold much against you when its impossible to legitimately purchase the product. Its like TA, the work is essentially orphaned as we only have a vague idea of who its owner might be (Atari), and that company is almost dead anyway.
