Most probably that could not blow up, but rather contaminate everything around (which isn't much better). Cars get into accidents all the time, and are damaged pretty heavily in the process, so a reactor core damage leading to radioactive leakage would be very likely.

Yeah, that thing is from an era before we realized just how dangerous radiation is.

Course, with a nuclear reactor, we could all be driving tanks around and not really have to worry about fuel economy. :P

Military vehicles built on commercial truck bases are usually a sign of underfunding. Commercial stuff just isn't designed for the kind of action military vehicles engage in, because that would make the truck too expencive and uncompetitive on the market. Proper wheeled artillery pieces look like this:
