Amazon River Delta - v2

Post by Beherith »

After playing World in Conflict, I was amazed at how great there map textures look, so I went looking around for the map editor.

The editor is very very user friendly, and super fast (took it 10 minutes to generate this texture)

It can import and edit heightmaps on the fly in 3d, and has a very versatile texturing tool.
I liked it so much, that I decided to remake one of my older maps, just to see how good it would look, and because that map wasn't properly finished and fine tuned.

The results speak for themselves, download it and I hope you have as much fun playing it as I did in making it :)

If you have any questions regarding the WIC map editor, feel free to ask :)

Wow, absolutely beautiful, one of the best looking maps I've seen..

My only gripe is the trees -- they're much too bright and cartoony for the actual texture of the map..

Could I interest you in making a version of this map with minor alterations to features and the metalmap for Spring: 1944...? ;)

I can send you the source files, or just the metal and feature maps if you want me to recompile, Ill glady help for S1944.
The texture might be problematic to send, its 190MB.

The trees are Smoth's trees, with the brightness tuned way down on them. Couldnt find any suitable trees for spring...

Holy sweet jesus mercy.

Yeah, send me the metal map... as for the feature, hrm. Actually, the trees and features are trivial tbh. Just the metalmap. I'll PM you my email address.

I'm surprised you got the map below 30mb with a 190mb texture file. If you wanted to share some tips on how you did that?

I used one of Smoth's skyboxes, dont remember which, but if you un7zip the map, then its placed in the maps folder (eveningsky.dds).

Agorm made some proper trees, my old trees need to be thrown away. As glad as I am that they were usefull they are antiquated and should be removed since we have a better replacement now.

Vadi, Bear in mind the skybox files have distortions when looked at in 2d.

I have the sourcefiles sitting around at home. what do you need in specific. Also, better to pm me about it rather then take up this thread.

Get a DDS plugin for PS or GIMP if you use either, or use DXTbmp. A quick google would've given you the answer too. :P

Please do swap out for my tree's... then it will be even sweeter. Also... are you using the right mapconv? Only I think I spot some lines in those screens...

I will switch them to aftershock's trees, those look excellent.

I was having lots of trouble with the new mapconv.
First off, for some odd reason it arbitrarily flips the row order on the heightmap, thereby flipping it around and putting the texture on it the wrong way.
Then, it fails at tiling the texture map, and returns with an abomination of random tiles.

All my files for this map are .bmp, and I know thats the problem, I once got the new mapconv to work properly, with some combination of .tga and .png files, but I forgot what that was, and have no desire to try and go through it again.

On the map that I got the new mapconv to work, I also got scanlines, so I just said fuck it. Even after reading through users mapconv thread I didnt know what was exactly wrong.

Nice looking map...
So are the fragships(epoch) also able to pass through those shallows ?

I've been having problems with latest mapconv also. For some reason it gives me weird errors and the result of texture is just shit. Overall the texture quality has not been very good. I'll stick up with mothersmap conv and crappy contourlines until the issues with user's mapconv are fixed...
