Re: DWARF FORTRESS
It doesn't need to be a sticky; it lives eternally either way. But please stop trolling the poor topic.

Re: DWARF FORTRESS
It stays a sticky, since I think OT is a good place to showcase other high quality freeware games, and DF is own and win.

Re: DWARF FORTRESS
To bump things up, something funny just happened over here.
A while ago an Axedwarf was carrying around her baby when an ambush hit. Both of them lost a leg. Now, the baby went berserk, triggering this series of events:

Minkot Tulonegul, Child has gone berserk!
Ral Tostetur, Axedwarf cancels Rest: Interrupted by Child.
Minkot Tulonegul, Child has been struck down.
Ral Tostetur, Axedwarf is more experienced.

Dwarf forts owns :D
Re: DWARF FORTRESS
Forgive me for not reading 28 pages.
But um, why has no one attempted a basic tiled interface for DF like nethack?
Or have they?
Or would it require like 34543876912 different tiles, and no one is that crazy...
But thanks for reminding me I wanted to try this game!
:D

Re: DWARF FORTRESS
Yes there is a tiled interface, it can replace the game font with full-color tiles along with replacing specific creature and dwarf types with custom icons

It has been done... I can't remember where, but you can find it somewhere on the DF wiki... I don't use them myself, personally.Ixoran wrote:Forgive me for not reading 28 pages.

So yeah. thanks.
I dunno. I play too many games, so sometimes having easy graphical cues helps me get started.
Like I played nethack tiled for the first month or so, now, I just play whatever I'm in the mood for.
Thanks a bunch.

Re: DWARF FORTRESS
I use Herrbdog 16x16 characters and no graphics sets.
Re: DWARF FORTRESS
I actually made my own character set (20x20), but I also do not use graphics sets.
I've been thinking of doing graphics just for the other major races though (Human, Elf, Goblin, Kobold), making them look basically just like ascii characters. Dwarves are smiley faces with beards, so I was thinking of making Elves smiley faces with ears, Humans plain smiley faces, goblins smiley faces with fangs, and kobold... I dunno, probably just reuse the goblin face.

Re: DWARF FORTRESS
Ooh... a 20x20 Would be great... goblins have big noses and kobolds are reptillian... can I get that 20x20 so I can try it out?

Re: DWARF FORTRESS
I like DF in pure ASCII - I even avoid tilesets that have single-use characters replaced with graphical representations. I can't seem to avoid using a tileset that replaces the smilies with bearded smilies, though...

Just don't start the game in fullscreen to solve that problem.Felix the Cat wrote:I like DF in pure ASCII - I even avoid tilesets that have single-use characters replaced with graphical representations. I can't seem to avoid using a tileset that replaces the smilies with bearded smilies, though...
