Re: Very interesting Articles
The force of their punch is significant. But it's really more of a impact attack that is being applied. If you watch some of the youtube videos where people feed thier mantis shrimp assorted large crabs, some of the punches do send the mantis flying one way and the crabs flying another. But with small crabs while they are in thier burrow they don't hit hard enough to send themself flying. There's a huge ammount of speed on their punches, but very little weight. The idea is that it reverberates through, and sometimes punctures, hard armors, like crab shell. It's also why the legs just rip off... so much impact the armor can't protect them.manored wrote:What I know about physics tells me that the shrimp should "fly" backyards after punching, but it seens they dont... anyone knows why? :)

The claw-fist-thing is probably pretty light, and the shrimp also retracts it counteracting the movementmanored wrote:What I know about physics tells me that the shrimp should "fly" backyards after punching, but it seens they dont... anyone knows why? :)

Re: Very interesting Articles
I saw a really truly interesting short clip on Youtube about a fish (with gills) that can actually move rather quickly ON LAND. It doesn't need to be in water for something like 3 days as long as the conditions are right, iirc.
I'll see if I can find it...

Since we are gonna talk about weird animal stuff, did you guys knew that turtles can breath under and above water? If yes, did you knew that they breath underwater through the same hole they use to poo? :)

Re: Very interesting Articles
That too :) My brother has 2 pet turtles and whenever there is no food or anyone around (cause they know we bring food) they sock thenselfes in the smaller hole possible and sleep... and they burrow thenselfes if you put em on sand :)
Re: Very interesting Articles
i read about these shrimps a while back.I know this sounds totally unbelievable but when they punch and the bubble they make bursts the reason the water boils is because for a fraction of a second it becomes as hot as the suns surface

Re: Very interesting Articles
Dude, uh, check the first page of this thread. We've been there and seen it and it's... "older brother."
Re: Very interesting Articles
Mmm... I always suspected that they look like a kind of very tasty shrimp I eat sometimes. Turns out they're the same thing!
