We have an IRC channel

Post by SwiftSpear »

Myself I'm somewhat of an IRC addict and me and some buddies were wanting a realtime way of chatting about spring so I decided to start up an IRC channel. Join #taspring on gamesurge.net if you're interested.

I used gamesurge because if you are into gaming your most likely introduction to IRC is probably through CS clanning or clanning for another HL mod, so I figured it had the highest chance of not colliding with servers people already use...

If you need help setting up IRC or gamesurge I'm more then willing to help you out. You probably want to get a client like mirc (http://www.mirc.com/), although there are tonnes if you just google "mirc client". Information on setting up and authenticating a gamesurge account can be found at http://www.gamesurge.net/newuser/ and general information about gamesurge at http://www.gamesurge.net.

I'm more then willing to transfer ownership or grant ops to TAS staff if they want it, just contact me. Join up! should be fun being able to discuss issues and set up games in realtime, as forums are great, but kind of difficult for some things.

Why not just use the chat in the client lobby? Your more likley to get people in there than you are getting them into an IRC channel. And for all of us who dont have IRC and cant be bothered installing one, its a much easier option. Plus you get the added bonus of being able to plan, start and play games there, instead of having to swap programs if anyone wants to play. Ill think ill take a pass on this one sorry. Good idea, but has kinda already been implemented.

It's alot less feature heavy for finding people and what not, plus the client uses up more system resourses then the vast majority of IRC clients. I use the client for alot of things, but I figured straight IRC would be better for things like helping eachother out with mapping or modding or just general arguments about balance. Plus if you hang out I'll up your clvl :P
