Whenever i export to unit viewer to make a picture, i do the alt-printscreen i dont get the unit in the pic, instead i end up with a picture of the program header. What can i do to fix this?

Ehhh...

Just alt-printscreen, then open up paint, and paste it in. Then crop it down to a 96x96 square image of the unit, save it as a normal 24 bit .bmp file in the /unitpics/ directory, and use the "Buildpic=filename.bmp;" tag in the unit's FBI. There's no need to use 3dob's crappiness or TA's color palette.

Besides, IIRC, that operation doesn't produce a PCX, it produces a three frame GAF which is utterly useless to Spring.

Uber-Nifty-Glitchiness-in print screen...

Open a DivX(or Mpg, I don't quite remember) in WinAmp and do a simple printscreen and then past that into a Paint saved BMP.... and set it as your destop (keep the movie playing in the background...), then minimize everything and if it works like it does for me you'll see the movie playing on the destop... it's worked on a couple of the computers I have tried... I think this might be what he's talking about, where certain content isn't captured properly with print screen when you past it into Paint...

That only happens on videos compressed with certain codecs, not opengl rendered TA models. I've print screened 3dobuilder bazillions of times in my history :)

IIRC, that video thing is actually called Overlay. Its a special function of your video card (usually using Direct X) that replaces every instance of a certain colour on the screen with another one. So the background of the video player is a certain colour (usually a very dark grey), and the video card replaces this colour with the colours of the video playing. It means that print-screening stuff like that is impossible, unless you actually capture the pictrue coming out of your video card, not what windows THINKS its displayng. But i dont know why its not working in 3do or what ever your using. Thats a mystery to me.

I think it works by defining rectangles (i.e. a window) into which the graphics card renders straight to monitor, rather than colour replacement, but otherwise what you said is correct...

Hi, erm...Im having some fairly majour problems with this damned thing. Ive made an object of several diffrent sizes in 3DS Max 7, under several diffrent formats (.DXF .lwo .obj) and whenever I import an object, i get a blank screen with a pink dot i can move around, that has no respect for the amount of zoom. Does anyone know why im having this import problem? Ive tried to use rhino and lightwave as well, but the result is the same, all i can import is the stuipid tutorial box thats in the .lwo format. and im not building a unit with that I tell thee now! any suggestions would be appreciated.

What I tried was modelling under 3DS max (whatever version), then exporting to 3DS and importing in Wings3D. Wings3D converts a 3D mesh of triangles automatically to polygons and also exports to OBJ, which you can import without problem in 3DO builder...

what 3d builder read is 'basic' lightwave 5.0 format....
if u using lightwave u should use menu-export-lightwave5 .lwo instead just save them...
but if u are use max.... I dunno.... 3d max is evil when come to export-import business... but didnt a swedish yankspankers 3dmax to 3do exporter/importer plugins already ?? I succesfully using that with max 4 and max 5, so it maybe work under v6 and v7 too ??
