Why are we arguing about mods?

Post by SiN »

Sure, we all like some mods better than others. But does this really mean that we need to argue with eachother why?

No.

I don't see why we don't all just play our mods and respect eachother's opinions on mods, and not question them.

BA, CA.

Both are great mods with a lot of effort into them. I like them both and play both every once in a while. I don't take sides when an argument starts on these mods.

I play pretty much every mod, although I don't play many Non-TA based mods. I grew up with OTA, and don't have working discs anymore, so I play Spring. Unfortunately, there isn't an entirely OTA based mod around anymore (BOTA, Classic TA - Crashes/Old). But that's alright.

I didn't come in here expecting to save the entire community from "The Mod Wars", but hopefully a few of you will think some of this over.

So in other words you play a small segment of mods but like to say that you play lots of mods in order to make yourself look good?

I argue about mods because it helps me understand my own internal discourse better. Personally I don't have huge preferences at this point, aside from that I like railing BA... but I always feel like I learn something more about game structure every time I enter the discussion again. Expecially with some of the high ups on the mod teams. People like saktoth and tired teach me alot, even if ultimately I disagree with them.

because if you like ba clearly you're an insane fanboy who has never bothered trying anything else and you need to be insulted regularly

I personally have no problem with BA other than that it is not as fun to me as CA. It is a good mod and should be treated as such. A lot of hard work has been put into it to make it a good game, and that should not be taken for granted. My only issue is that those who dislike CA often insult it and the people who play it. I am not saying that they are never aggravated by CA players, however.

On the issue of advertising, I have no issue with CA's use of #main. I have never seen any negative effects due to it.

If someone posts a message and interrupts the conversations of others or tries to purposefully annoy others, then it is a problem. However if neither of these two conditions are met, I do not believe advertising in main is a bad thing.

It was designed to fit in with the discussion that habitually occurs on this subject in #main, actually. I really don't see why it's necessary for BA and CA players to be continually arguing that their mod is better.

Why are we arguing about mods?
For me it's not really about the mods. It's always fun for me to argue just about anything, gives birth to new ideas and expands my point of view about stuff. Plus it's good English practice.

I think mod arguing exists because people who play mods other than BA have a very hard time getting games of then going, let alone with a lot of people, so they get frustated and try to find out why so few people play it. Now, if you give a look at BA, its not better than other mods, just different, so those people think that the problem is that those BA players never try anything new.

Personally I think that indeed people are very resistant to trying new stuff in spring. Just look to maps, its very hard for a map to become popular, and then it becomes, people pretty much only play it for a long while...

It's not about who comes up with the idea, it's about who uses it successfully :-)

(everyone knows that by now, right?)

Yeah and the Dodai2 is a critical part of any Zeon anti-com assault. Or are you saying only popular mods count?

Depends for what. If for success, then yep! That's how the world works. The winner is judged by popularity. Personal satisfaction? Not really, you can be having fun while making it.

@rattle: You went a bit too far ahead ( )
