I would want to make ceasefires with other allianceteams in an FFA where they don't see my LOS, but our units just don't attack eachother, and we still can't win the game until one of us is dead.

Ceasefire would be better wording than Ally to disginguish the two concepts.

I am still unclear as to whether you ally (ceasefire with) a playername or an allyteam number (what is X?). If it's playername the widget could coordinate when one person on an allyteam ceasefires with someone on another allyteam, both allyteams ceasefire with everyone else. Either way, it is a welcome feature. I'd put it in CA so that everyone in the battle would have the widget and it can synchronize ceasefire agreements.
Its indeed an ceasefire. You won't share LOS, and you can't win together.
Such a ceasefire is always between AllyTeams (which is x). When a player does the ally-command it influence the whole AllyTeam. A player can't change his allyteam.
So for a FFA each team (with one or more players when commsharing) needs to get his own AllyTeam.

Either way I think a player negotiating with an enemy should be visible to all allies (not ceasefireds) of the involved parties.

:? That would really, really suck. How about a compromise of letting the mod deal with how this should be used? (I'm thinking of a unit function to keep tabs on your allies).

This could be fun. Call ceasefire, get all units past defenses, cancel ceasefire, BOOM!

Et tu, Brutus?
