Outdated munitions? Rk62 and ak both use 7.62 cartridge. The russians basically switched back to AKM( which uses 7.62) from ak74 (5.50) in chechenya since the 5.50 shots caused little damage in the body, compared to 7.62's stopping power.SwiftSpear wrote:It's still an AK variant, and fundamentally, even if it's still more accurate, doesn't address the plethora of other problems with the AK design. outdated/slow munitions, awkward rechambering and unidexterous design, very high recoil, poor balance/ergonomics, and very long profile(which makes it suck for CQC).
The new versions of the m16 serie are more focused on police/special forces use, and OICW, while looking promising, is a cancelled project.I mean realistically, the AK is a very good assault rifle, and therefore the "best" AK is a very very good assault rifle. But there are just too many problems with the AK for me to consider it the best assault rifle ever made. Especially in comparison to many of the new AR systems like the HK416 and OICW, and I can't even speak for the many bullpup systems which stormed the market, I haven't done any research on them aside from using the AUG in CS.
Not very practical, though...Craters from the HE shells measured 30-ft wide and 30-ft deep while the concrete piercing projectile proved capable of penetrating 264-ft of reinforced concrete before exploding!
Hey, I didn't say the AK round is worse than the 5.56 nato. One of the biggest advantages of the AK system is the immense stopping power and high armor piercing. The AK with a 5.56 round makes the gun a worse gun than the M16. It's only advantage then is the sturdiness of the gun, it can't match the RoF, Accuracy, Balance, ambidexterity, or easy modularity of the M1x systems.Sleksa wrote:Outdated munitions? But on the bullpups you are right. The p90 is imo the best example of the advantages of this design

The thing is, I really don't believe the 40 year old weapons systems are the best AR models we have to date. Most modern weapons systems improve many different aspects of those systems. They are just commonly used because they have been getting churned out for 40 years now, there is so many of them they need to be used.
Hehehe.Fanger wrote:mass spam AKs
That's the reason that most of the Mx variants have obscenely large sight rails and ambidextrous construction. But realistically... You can't argue than an AK is that much easier to use than the HK416. Cheaper to manufacture, sure, but in function and maintenance the guns are virtually identical.Fanger wrote:The AK is a superior weapon not because in the hands of a skilled trained soldier it is the most accurate deadly piece of equipment ever made. NO the AK is a superior weapon because it does not require any skill to use one. It requires virtually no upkeep, can be made cheaply and in large numbers, and pretty much anyone can pick one up and use it. This means that while you spend time training people, someone can mass spam AKs. There is a reason there are a bajillion AKs and varients on this design. It is a good weapon, and BEST does not always mean most awesomest highest tech..
