Remove the "Resign" option.

Post by quantum »

Aka "Ragequit". It leaves the game and self-destructs all your units. Nearly every time it's used, it ruins a game, mostly not intentionally.

I think there's some work being done on that. The problem is that self-D is always available as a regular command.

He's not talking about trying to close that cheap-assed exploit with ctrl-a ctrl-d. He's talking about just removing the bloody-stupid poorly-labelled ragequit command that exists right in the exit menu.

I propose to remove the "Resign+Quit" box and make the "Resign"-box not to self destruct units, instead they will be abandoned like if the player had left the game.

So it wont be possible any longer to quit a game and win thanks to queued commands ?
Maybe some users would like to really finish games, even if the other team left :?

edit: hum I think that queued commands are lost when player leaves, so actually my first remark is pointless...

factory continue working tough. You can set then to produce units forever so they gradually push each other till they reach to the enemy :) Stuff like BBs would continue shooting too.

I agree with removing that option its only used to ruin games on purpose or by people who are too stupid to notice that its possible to give stuff to allies or simplily leave instead of making BOOM.

Its not much fun to search for some units left on the map when the other player has already given up, so it makes sense that the game is won in this case.

Btw I have removed the button
And when you hit "Resign" now you will become spectator and some other players can ".take" your units

for real, resign should be, I am done, leave the units and make me a spec. LEAVE means I am gone. Leave and self-d should not be an option, that is an asshole thing to do.

Its all a gui problem....there should be a small small bar with a few buttons amongts which a button to open the menu that open now by pressing the "H" button another for diplomacy when it will be enabled and maybe los also...

All the menus cluttering the game is a problem though and we need a way to custmoize the gui as much as we want...im talknig about the default gui not third party cause that isnt suitable for noobs that have no idea where is what.
A possibility to remove the move patrol guard commands from the gui without digging i txt files.

I remember pressing shift-esc as a host once and the game just quit without even giving me a resign dialog...

does that still happen? I just want an easy way to leave the game and go into spectator mode as a host, and leave my team to choose who wants my units.

Edit: also a noob way to remove default command buttons is not needed imo, as noobs have no reason to do so, and if you give them the means to do so, sooner or later they'll remove a button that they'll figure out they really need later on and then you'll have to add a way to easily readd said buttons them... Would be too much of an UI mess for too little benefit, imo.

This shouldn't happen. If it still does, its a bug, but I'm not able to reproduce.

Thats exactly how the resign button behaves now (in svn).

I also witnessed the problem with pressing shift-esc while hosting. Just to confirm, it has been fixed now

And i also agree with the original point of the topic.

What about lua? Does leaving give your units to gaia by any chance (I guess this makes no sense) ? Hmmmm... I guess that you have to specify the team that the units have to go to. So yes, this is a legit feature request.
