Skybox issue

Post by mufdvr222 »

I have been using the same skybox for a particular map in the works for weeks, I decided to make a new one with some terrain included.
Here`s the rub,, I changed "SkyBox=xxxxxx.dds" from "SkyBox=blue.dds"
to "SkyBox=sky.dds" blue.dds being the old skybox and sky.dds is the new skybox only Spring still loads the old one. I removed the old skybox.dds file out of "maps" thinking this would force Spring to load the new one specified in the maps .smd,, no dice I get no sky at all, it won`t even use other skyboxes that I know work. :x
<edit> I have figured out that I can get a different skybox to work with a given map but the .dds file name must be the same as the existing skybox.dds file name used for that map. :?

realy? I though my one looked the same... hay SJ, its ANOTHER skybox problem!! Maybe its referenced in one of the files that are created when spring loads in a map (the path finding files) although why it would be there i dont know.

Have you tryed taking teh skybox tag out and seeing if it uses clouds again? maybe if you do that it will force the map to reset what skybox to use once you re add teh tag with a new name.

<edit> I think your right, I removed all referance to the skybox from the maps .smd but I still get a skybox

I found the problem, I had two versions of the same map "different file name" in my maps directory and spring was loading this map instead of the one I wanted to load, their filenames where different,, go figure,, so I moved ALL maps except the one I was trying to test from "maps" to a subdirectory I called "surplus maps" within the maps directory, spring still showed all the maps in the "in menu" maps list and still was not loading the map I was selecting, I had to take this folder and move it to a directory outside of spring to finally see the map I wanted, loaded, this started happening with 0.61b2
This resolved the skybox issues I was having and I now have the geovent graphics on the map, turns out I didn`t see them because spring was loading another version of the map in question even though I hade selected a whole other map in the maps list.
Find this confusing?? I do.
