EDIT: MAGICALLY STARTED WORKING AT RANDOM, NEVERMIND.
Just got a new monitor, very nice, shiny. Has a different native resolution from my old monitor because it's widescreen. I was thinking though, the whole reason I bought this was so I could work on games and crap more effectively, why not hook up the second monitor and get even more room?
No says Nvidia, that would rule too much.
They have different native resolutions, and despite the fact that you can - in every other situation - enable desktop panning to give you extra "virtual" desktop space, it won't let me do this to make up for my missing screen size.
You know what I mean, right? Set your flatscreen to 2560x1920 or whatever it is, and it will just pan the screen whenever you move your mouse to the edge, like you're playing some kind of desktop RTS...
You'd think that you could enable this panning to make your second desktop (1280x1024) have 26 extra pixels of height to match your new monitor (1680x1050), but it doesn't seem to be possible that I can tell.
Does anyone know a workaround? I know I've seen at least one person here who has a couple monitors of different sizes.
Multiple monitors, desktop panning, etc

enable both monitors or use horizontal span. no matter how I slice it you are doing something wrong over there. I have used many different sized monitors on my machine.
make sure you enabled the second monitor. Also horizontal span is in the nvidia tool.
second monitor is like haveing two screen spaces
horizontal span is like having 1 wide assed screen space.

Errr... I solved the problem already, edited my post to that effect many hours ago.
All that needed to be done was a reboot, apparently.

That's exactly what happened to me when I plugged in my second monitor

Same here with my nVidia.
Don't spring much on both monitors though, since you have to switch it to span mode (which screws up my delicate icon placings).

I miss my second monitor supporting laptop...
Sometimes I hook up my TV and use it as a second monitor but it's just not the same (very useful for playing internet acquired television shows and playing emulated games however)

Get a PSP Slim with an 8 gb memory stick, flash custom firmware, install emulators, install PMP Player Advance, buy extended life battery, now you have your "laptop with tv out" except it's got 20 hours of battery life, is more portable, and.... well... I've heard it has games, but I've never seen any evidence to back up that fact. More importantly it plays Genesis and older @ 100% speed, and you can fit like 4 seasons of a TV show on it.
