Lua request.

Wuld be nice ot have a widget that allows you to take a builder and give it a target area in which he will repeatedly rebuild anything that was ruined by attacks, bombing runs and such.

Wuld be nice ot have a widget that builds your mex/solar and micros your attacks so you could focus on the truely strategic aspects of the game, like combombing, insulting other players via chat, and ragequitting.

Obviously. Likewise, the repeat button is for lazy bums. As is the shift-key. Seriously, if you can't do all your orders when you need them, why play?

Real men don't need pathfinding, either.

Seriously, Matt, this isn't a suggestion where the guy wants the con to design his base for him - he just wants it to rebuild any structure it was told to preserve - just an exaggerated "area guard" really.

There are plenty of things you can complain about with this thread but OMGZ LUA IS TAKING OVER THE GAME! is just ridiculous and completely off topic.

lollerz.

I'll make you eat those words. Every day I'm adding new functionality to CA's retreat. quantum is working on another in-battle widget too. Combined we really will eliminate all combat micro, then I'll throw in the mex/solar building widget just to spite you. There's a short term plan to bypass lua and just implant Cybran chips into your head. The future of this planet will consist entirely of combombing, chat insults and ragequits!

That wasn't my point. I use quite a bit of lua, but the suggested widget crosses the line between making tools that eliminate needless micro and playing the game for you. If your enemy expends attention and micro destroying your stuff, you should have to expend attention and micro to rebuild it.

I could care less if you ruin CA's gameplay with widgets that play the game for you. I don't play CA.

An action that's as braindead as simply rebuilding things exactly where they were isn't really micro that needs protection. You can already do this by hitting repeat and simply requeueing everything, it just takes unnecessarily long to input.

Think about it, a dumb widget might just wreck your econ or prioritize the wrong things. It's not a perfect solution, if you want more control you can still do it manually.

Or are you one of those people who completely disable LuaUI? Your loss, improvements that used to go into the core GUI now go into LuaUI. If you don't use LuaUI you confine yourself to an outdated interface.

If that is directed at me, you failed at reading my post. Clicking repeat build is fine. Rebuilding your mex or other things after they have been raided is trainer behavior that reduces the value of raids.

what you see as a trainer, others see as delegation of work. I've said before that introduction of Lua into UI will mean that micro-intensive but otherwise simple and repetitive actions become targets for scripts. no way around that.

But the line must be drawn somewhere. Rebuilding your stuff after it has been destroyed is clearly over the line.

Hardly, as long as it is attached to a building such as a reconstruction hub, or a rebuilder bot so that it isn't overpowered.

You're thinking this wrong. Think like this: Kill an outlying mex and wait for the con to come and rebuild it, then kill the con.

No doubt it can be exploited to the raider's advantage in some situations, but that doesn't make it any less of a bad idea. I'm more concerned about situations where both players attention is fully taxed and something like this might make a difference, rather than the difference in players' skill.

It's a valid concern, but one that has no solution other than sticking to closed-source games that are designed around (lack of) ability to click and press key chords several hundred times per minute. trepan has opened "the pandora's box" already and there's no going back, for better or worse.

Well, you could make a mod option to only allow lua inside that mod when you play that mod if things got too out of hand. Then the mod authors could ensure that the lua used when playing that mod does not wreck the gameplay. Hopefully it doesn't come to that though and people will refrain from making trainer widgets.
