Unusual error loading a map

"Error couldnt open tile file maps\mapname.smt"

This happens for no logical reason at all, If I generated the source images for ten maps the same size 8192 x 8192 for the source texture 1025 x 1025 for the source height and metal .bmp`s about four out of the five will give this error at map load. Could there be a problem with the new mapconv??

I know this happens when producing 'solid' archives with 7zip... Is that it?

Yes I have that box checked,, it was that way by default and to be honest I never noticed it  , only been using 7-zip for a few weeks.
I will make the obvious assumption and uncheck it next time around.
thanks :-)

I gave it another go but it still won`t load up the maps in question
whenever I use a texture looking anything like this I get the same error.

thats the only real difference between the affected maps and ones that work first time around.

Just thought Id say, that looks liek a freeggin ausome map, Is it a hole in the ground (which I think it is) or a mountain sticking up? or will it be filled with water? Very curios as it looks swell.

Its a large crater rim that I was planning to partly flood, but unfortunatly either spring or mapconv, "I suspect the latter" may have a problem with the graphic,, I don`t know its dam frustrating I have the source images ready for three maps similar to this but also quite different in terrain types desert, ice, and temperate climates.
Spring gets as far as "creating overhead texture" and bombs out

I substituted the terrain .bmp for a bland repeating sand texture and the map loaded up in spring fine, so I can only conclude that mapconv or spring has a problem that only manifests itself if the map texture graphic is fery complex in nature.

There's a bug with reading large files from .sd7 archives which was fixed in version 0.61b2, might be that. Also, you don't have to put the map in a 7zip or zip archive when you are testing it.. You can just put the files directly in the maps folder.

20.6mb but the compression was 0.4 in "mapper.bat" it would drop to about 15 mb if I upped the compression to 0.8, which I will do.
Just noticed I got grass again.
