Some of the code is being released under GPL. Some under LGPL. I don't have timing yet, except on the map-demo thingy, which I want to release tomorrow if possible.

I love all the different vehicle designs in Venus Wars. Glad to know who did them. Admiral P-1 ftw!
Anyway, Argh, I've got to say, I really like the look of your mod. It obviously has a lot put into it and the textures are really nice. I only hope that it plays as nicely as it looks; it'd be a shame if such good artwork were slapped into such a silly dogmatic principle as most TA mods. I hope it has some nice gameplay elements.

Well, I'm hoping that it will get more interesting, once the LUA bits are all in place. Right now, it's basically just a glorified OTA clone. Coming up with LUA stuff that's subtle and won't hose AIs is going to be part of the challenge, but thus far, it's working.I only hope that it plays as nicely as it looks; it'd be a shame if such good artwork were slapped into such a silly dogmatic principle as most TA mods. It's OK, but for the helicopter, I want something... I don't know how to explain it very well... something that implies that in the far future, they've kept them around, by adapting them to changes that have taken place.
I like GMN's design, because it has that funky biotech hybrid look that the Combine helicopter did- a technology that's so advanced, it looks a bit alien. With something like a helicopter in the far future, you'd expect them to be like that, if they keep them around- stealthy, evil things with bad attitudes and weird tech that keeps them from becoming instant shrapnel
The Halo thingy just doesn't do it for me. It looks like a Macross Valkerie in Gerwalk mode, with the legs and arms ripped off, to me at least. And I have massive problems believing it would actually work, given the balance of forces. Most of the weight is forward, but the thrusters obviously cannot bring a lot of force to balance that- it'd just tip on its nose, IRL. Could be reworked, mind ye, but I just don't think it's as interesting.

So, uh, what needs modelling next? I know you're after infantry, but do have anything in particular in mind? (ie general appearance, weaponry etc)

I would find it very hard to believe that conventional Free rotor Helicopters would be something kept in the future.
Sealed Turbofan, vectored Jet thrust or Antigrav could easily offer the same maneuverability and versatility of any current Helicopter Rotor vehicle.
Free rotors are noisy, dangerous, and quite susceptible to damage via collosion or by weapons fire.
Add that to being the only thing keeping the vehicle stable, and it causes me to believe that any Helicopter in the future would be designed as a VTOL using some other means of propulsion.

Not necessarily. If you're looking for a design which couples functionality with extreme simplicity then the helicopter is the way to go. Afterall, 100 years after the invention of the aeroplane, despite the fact that the technology has increased exponentially beyond what anybody could even begin to fathom back then, airplanes still follow the exact same basic principle; airfoil wings for lift, a powerplant which provides propulsion via thrust, horizontal and verticle stabilizers, a cockpit, etc. Therefore it is entirely likely that in another 100 or 200 years, we will still be utilizing the same basic principles, albeit with extremely advanced technologies which continue to take those principles to the threshold of human engineering. While it sounds cool to have some flying saucer anti-gravity vehicle utilizing quantum singularities and anti-particle theory and whatever, more than likely, we'll simply use a helicopter which can do basically the same thing and cost 1/10000000000th the pricetag. Afterall, the United States Air Force still uses turboprop aircraft 70 years after the invention of the jet engine despite the obvious and overwhelming advantages jet technology has over a spinning propeller.
