Tbh there are much bigger diffrences between accents in the UK than there are in the US. Im from SE England and i can pretty much understand any US accent, but i still have trouble with some people from cornwall/wales/scotland sometimes. Especialy if they;re pissed

True... but there's still some areas that have accents so thick it's tough to understand. Nobody wants to say it for fear of sounding racist, but the urban African-American dialect can be difficult for white folk to understand, depending on the city and how thick the dialect is. (We're not talking hip-hop lingo here, but the accent itself...) Then there's Appalachian hillbillies, rural Southerners, etc. - the ones that talk fast and unintelligibly. For a long time there was a running joke about schools in Brooklyn teaching English as a Second Language for people who wanted to leave the area as well.

I live near Reigate, about 20 mins away from guildford too, in the opposite direction!
