disguised units
certain units that would be able to look like a tree or rock, and could ambush other units as they passed. they would be stealthed and cloaked so they wouldnt be shot at, only detecting units could find them and uncloak them.
Re: disguised units
Um, rock/tree idea is fail, no offense, because mousing over should reveal and a random rock somewhere may be obvious. Just cloak and stealth a unit. That will achieve the desired effect. Then have motion cam units as "detectors".
Re: disguised units
i dont mean just trees and rocks, i mean also one unit can look like another unit and can change teamcolor, so you can look into an enemy base, use your imagination
Re: disguised units
Thats tricky. If ur enemy is paying attention, it would not get very far.

Re: disguised units
Well as you could sort out a tree wandering through your base or even a tank (I rarely have units going any other direction than to the front) just keeping it cloaked instead of doing a mimicry would be better...
It only makes sense if you would want to scare your enemy with "decoy units" - then you might have some use from such a feature...

Re: disguised units
The spy from C&C:RA was pretty cool; a unit that looks like one of your regular troops, that only dogs can sniff out.
Should be possible, the problem is, someone will have to do it, and it may seem a waste of time; how often will this get used?

You're the one that started the damned thread and brought up the idea; its your job to use your imagination, not just "omg i want to do this, now everyone think of how!"i dont mean just trees and rocks, i mean also one unit can look like another unit and can change teamcolor, so you can look into an enemy base, use your imagination
Re: disguised units
Make a unit/units that when you turn them off they spawn a tree or a rock but they can't fire or move that way if you want to shoot somebody you have to make them them visible. Because if not you get something like this...
"Roger that. Peewee 117 moving in." "Peewee 117 to control, these trees aren't suppost to be he..."statick...statick. "Control to peeper 12, what is going on whith PW117? We have lost contact." "PW117 just got shot by trees
!!! I can't get a lock on them!
If they can shoot and stay stethed thats not good.

Re: disguised units
total fail on two accounts ianmac.
1) Peepers dont have guns anyway...
2) NOT EVERY FEATURE IS APPLICABLE TO TA MODS GOD DAMNIT.

Re: disguised units
Sorry for the TA confusion. But I did not say Peepers had weapons I just said he could not get a lock on them. A lock on something could mean a laser designator or some thing to that effect. I was just simulating the effect that if you did not have your cursor change when trying to attack it i.e. a lock, that that might have some problems.
Re: disguised units
it would be cool if you had this unit, okay, that could shoot harmless weapons and could be morphed into a decoy of any other unit in the game... but it's options were limited to units that you could build already... so no krog decoy till you get the gantry built.
Re: disguised units
if it turned into a tree or rock, it would uncloak, but yet stay as a rock/tree maybe. the enemy could tell it as a unit, although it looks like a tree/rock

Re: disguised units
guess none of y'all ever played Dark Reign :'(
since thats *exactly* what the scouts and snipers could do. Disguise themselves as a tree or a rock, and unless an enemy unit saw them moving or shooting, they would be undetectable.

Re: disguised units
Morphing into static features is useless against someone who knows the map.
If, on the other hand, this happened in a mod with a peasent-goes-to-pick-lua-generated-resources economy (someone had this working, cant remember who) then it could be very useful/fun.
Anybody play homeworld cataclysm? Those holographic camouflage kamikaze units were pretty cool.

Re: disguised units
This would be particularly interesting if somebody made a mod that had a large number of units being under Populous-style indirect-control, or had a very active Gaia.

Re: disguised units
Anyone thinking of the RA2 Mirage tank? (It pretended it was a tree when standing still).
There was also this really cool 3rd party tank in TA that disguised itself as a corpse when not moving (didn't work that well because enemies still shot at it of course)

Eventually the corpse was not a disguise.Guessmyname wrote:Anyone thinking of the RA2 Mirage tank? (It pretended it was a tree when standing still).

Re: disguised units
Actually the real corpse was different. When disguised, it pretended to be a dead Bulldog
Re: disguised units
(it was a joke) But kind of good idea, if scripting could make it act like a corpse. Lol @ accidentally getting reclaimed.
