RAM queries

Post by Imperium »

Basically I am looking to upgrade my RAM however I am unsure as to what type of RAM will work with my Motherboard, and was hoping someone hear could help clear up my confusion.

Mobo:
Manufacturer - gigabyte technology co.
Model - K8T800-8237

From what I can gather I've got 512mb ddr ram... or something. Though this means minimal to me. So err, if anyone knows anything and can help, gogogo? If moar info is needed then let me know and I'll rustle it up.

O.o at maximum memory.

Anyway, you have 1 GiB of RAM at the moment. If you want to upgrade your RAM, I would recommend the same speed as your current RAM. Make sure you get DDR, not the newer DDR 2 or 3. I would recommend something like this.

Ah, I see.

Generally, "memory" refers specifically to the amount of RAM you have, not how much hard disk space you have.

Anyhow, it appears that "K8T800-8237" refers to the motherboard's chipset, not the motherboard model. Unfortunately, I can't tell what your maximum memory module size is; if you can't find out, you can get two more modules at 512 MiB each, such as this.

After a little research (do a find on the chipset on that page, its near the bottum) I found a few possibilities, which resulted in 2 hits on gigabyte's website. Compare your board with the pictures of those two (on their pages), and the one it looks most like is the one it most likely is. Then have fun checking the manual, faq, specifications, or more google searching until you find that info.
