We need this big time.
Dual-cores, although setting to one core makes it better, doesn't solve the issue for people who have no friggin clue how to change that, or why there $1000 pc can't run spring fast.
nVidia geforce 8 series, where is the support for these current generation video cards.

Dude...I get 50 fps with a core 2 duo 6420 and an 8800gts, with 16x aa/af and 8192x8192 shadowmaps. While that could certainly be better considering the power of that hardware, it's hardly performance I can complain about. If your performance is absolutely hideous, update your drivers and turn off threaded optimization.

Yes, mine runs fine, at about 40 fps, and I still haven't done the threaded or affinity yet.

You don't need to set affinity, some people under AMD cores need to but that's because they haven't taken their asses over to the AMD driver website. Some people say its best to use the see saw apps that isolate programs on a core all to themselves, but tbh you should be closing any other programs before you start anyway regardless of what game you're trying to run.
Threaded optimization is to be turned off, HOWEVER, tests showed framerate boosts under geforce 8 cards but not extreme boosts while testing the glGet call removals. Turning threaded optimizations on and off had almost no effect in these tests. It may also be noted that untill all glGet calls are removed then the majority of the performance boost will not be unlocked, and since nobody has timed glGet calls we cant be sure of it either.
But this is an opensource project. You are free to modify the code and submit changes, new features and fixes, as long as they're all nice clean code and not spaghetti bowls.

I'm referring to smoth's complaint, I might test it tonight, but I've noticed that I get 40fps boost by putting it on one core on my dell with a similar cpu, mine is a pentium D 2.8ghz "dual core" and that one has a pentium D 3ghz "dual core", it can be noted that most people don't consider it a dual core, and it's power is equal to a pentium, but with greater multitasking. It's "designed" to work optimally on multimedia applications and not games.

Yea.
It doesn't have hyper-threading, and it has some crazy things going on with the way the processors are connecting, and bus speed is only 800mhz I think. Double my celeron for FSB, and 4 times the L2 cache.

Add dual core as min req, then ppl can build 5k aircrafts. Then ppl will cry and request quad core support, then ppl can build 10k aircrafts. Then ppl will cry...
And a 256 colors version so ppl with under 1ghz and 16mb video can play...........

I play games where I cap at 1,000 units, usually lower.
I play for tactics, and my mod will focus on that as well.

Please, please, please stop spewing completely incorrect information about cpu architecture, referring to your knowledge on ""Dual Core"" processors. Aside from radiating your ignorance, this could misinform other users who are foolish enough to believe you.
My only point is, and has been stated before, people are upgrading, and spring isn't catching up as fast as it should.
- We don't currently have a programmer interested in doing graphics. Instead of whining to nobody in particular, find one, or do it yourself
- At this point, most graphical improvements should be per-mod anyway, which means lua shaders and NOT engine-side changes
- Spring is currently quite good looking (and appropriately taxing to a gpu) to have all the settings maxed, running a game package with decent models, fx, and textures.
- Performance on modern gpu's, while it could use some slight optimization, is fine. The ingame difference between 60FPS and 120FPS is almost completely unnoticable.
