Tombom! That's quite enough. Not only does it threaten to de-rail the topic even FURTHER than the current trajectory, it's a rude personal question. Do you honestly expect a verifiable answer on the Internet?

I could comprehend his ideas quite well. It sounds like a well-thought out idea. Indeed, if you go to testing, I will be happy to assist. One question: The two legs concept, you based it off of arachnid-esque legs, so will it REALLY be 16 legs, or 8 legs with TWO toes each?

The guy wants to make a mod, excellent.
I read what he wrote and understood it.
WTF is wrong with you?
instead of saying,"great but maybe this and this" you start nitpeaking his spelling and grammer?
Because spelling, punctuation and grammar comes first. At least make it look like you put some effort into it. He clearly didn't...

Faction, not fraction.

Please, put your post through MS word's spelling and grammar checker first. It still won't be perfect, but it won't read like one of AF's origional posts.

And second... why the hell are you sketching designs?

In real game development, the only reason we have concept art is because the designer doesn't always have time to talk to the artists making the model, so instead, he tells a concept artist, who sketches a design, asks "Is this what you want?" and gives it to the modeler.

Third...

Please, for the LOVE OF GOD learn to express your ideas coherently. If I was an employer in the industry (which in about 6 years, I may be), I'd not be hiring you because even if you have a great idea, you CAN'T express it well enough.

Sometimes it pays to cut out the middle man and it shows your imaginative side.

But as black liger said, people wont employ you based on fragmented ideas sprawled across forums. Create a design document and repost it with updates. Put it in a wiki or the first post in the thread and keep updating it, add a contents, index, sections, headers, header numbers, a title page, appendixes for your sketches. Don't just state what the game is, explain your decisions, why are these people attacking those? Why do the bugs have an extra robotic arm on their backs? What purpose does the potato starship serve?

Erm, prototyping (aka seeing how it looks in practice)? Pinning everything down while you're in drawy-creative mode instead of modeling-logical mode? Making sure you've thought about everything? Making sure you don't forget to model any detail?

bah hah hah hah hah hah....

My best models are either crafted in about 4 hours, half being sitting and thinking, or drawn some time during school then modelled in about an hour or so, some time later.

I don't get why the current trend on these board to tout design documents. I still don't believe it's how mod happens.

It's like playing Lotto, there's always a chance on finding someone who's willing to do your job.

To the contrary, if you plan on letting someone do your work, you'd better not contrive them by pages of specs.

Because in reality, there are no free slave workers, and the people doing the work will inevitably want to mod their own idea in, not to follow to the letter the writings of an incapable idiot.

Also, just like in the industry, if you're planning to sell your concept, you have to reduce it to a very short pitch when looking around for people interested.

the amount of design documents you post is inversely proportional to your chances of completing your mod

Wow people can be such jerks. Esp when comments come from some of the more prominent modders in this place

Anyway, IMO ironized your plan sounds kind of like all over the place, like a mess of ideas lumped into one. I'd suggest you start simple first. Think of a basic concept first (which you've already mentioned you'll be doing over the holidays), then decide where you want it to go. It's better to create 2 factions that have their own agendas/theme, rather than put in certain units just for the sake of balancing or because it's cool :)

Nor do I understand why people like to jump on people just for posting ideas, even if their designs are shabbily posted. I respect the work that some of you did, and I know it's easier to post ideas than to work on them, but for the sake of giving people the benefit of doubt, it's better to be polite than to go rabid over these minor things. It's not like having a little more bandwidth consumed is going to cause the world to explode like a supernova

Behaving like an ass is not going to stop people from posting more ideas. If anything, it'll only discourage people from getting any work done at all. Who knows, this guy may really be skilled, just that he's got into a minute of excitement over this wonderful idea he has
