Re: Your Desk
Hah... you have a spring forum browsing computer for when you are playing.
Re: Your Desk
AA... It's now or never for that. This week off is the only chance I'll get to work on it for a while; on my last day of work I got promoted about 16 times just before I went home... Now I'm the "laser-engraving, lathe-operating, CAD-designing, PC tech-supporting, vapour-honing, saw training, deburring-and-polishing training, shipping-and-receiving, intranet-designing, web developing, and-various-other-things guy".
This forum needs a "my life is hell" emoticon.
Really, I'm having a hard time getting the motivation though. I've got a year's worth of updating and testing to do. I'm hoping to get a beta out by next Wednesday the latest and a polished final by the following Monday.
G/E/M is in development hell, so is AWS.
But I did make some efforts towards updating the various sites:
http://www.caydr.com http://www.aaspring.com http://www.awspring.com (nothing there yet) and I'll be registering some GEM domain soonish.
Probably my biggest problem is, what will I call the next version of AA? It can't be version 2.5 or something since according to the internets, AA is at version 5.2 or something, with no indication that they're unoffical. Do you have any ideas? I might start a thread on the subject.

Re: Your Desk
Call it Caydr Annihilation. Except that may be abbreviated to CA. hmmmm. Maybe a non *A name would be nice, but that may scare the locals. Just pick a letter that has not been taken (I HAVE claimed UA btw), if you really need a name. Or make it AA 10.0, and say you didnt release all those version in development during your absence (right?)
If you need anything, I would love to help in any way I can. I am a late comer on the Spring scene, but I am a fan of AA. You did invent the tremor, did you not?

Here's my desk, a homemade chipboard/pine monstrosity. I've since painted it to make it less dirt-absorbent

Re: Your Desk
u need ubuntu, then ur desk is complete
Re: Your Desk
Nice case, where did you get it?
I did not "invent" hardly any of AA's units per se, but rather grabbed some of the best units from all over the OTA scene and tweaked them for my purpose. More often than not, this involved almost completely rebuilding and retexturing the model. The one thing I probably can't take any credit for is the scripts - I am currently 100% ignorant of making unit scripts from scratch, I can only tweak.
Tremor, for instance, I gave a completely original texture job since I couldn't find its original textures anywhere. I also had to resize and reposition parts of the model and I'm not sure but I don't think it had a corpse model at all to begin with. I made the unit TDF and its weapon from scratch, and also tweaked the animation a bit. I kept the name "Tremor" though, since it's so fitting.
Ask many of the OTA people who haven't played Spring and who probably haven't even played AA, and they will probably tell you I stole everyone's work without permission, bla bla bla. In reality I've received a dozen or more emails over the years from unit makers thanking me for using their units and asking if I wanted any help with more. I've never once received an email or been told by other means that someone doesn't want me using their work, and if any unit maker doesn't want me using their stuff I'll take it out as soon as possible.
I haven't made a single unit entirely by myself - even in the case of GEM, I got help with the scripts from a guy who used to hang around here.

My speakers are the next-most-expensive version of those
And they're THX certified! That's almost as good as being Vista compatible!

Used to hang around here? I guess I don't post as much here any more, and I didn't keep up during the last migration of your forum either...
I'll post a picture of my desktop after the new year, when I get a bit more space to play with. Its all in my head already, going to be awesome...

Re: Your Desk
My couch is my desk.
I wouldn't want to derail this thread by posting pictures of couches. Ha!
Wifi ftw.
I do have a desk, but it's buried under a pile of 1-3 year old papers, 10% of which are latin vocabularia, among other things.
I can make a pie graph if you want me to.
