Stalker is crap indeed, IMO. Played it for 3 hours and I'm bored with it already. Do mission X. Now do mission X again, just with a different target. Do mission X again but kill two people instead of one. Man this isn't WoW, is it. Boooring... no idea how the rest of the game is but those repetitive missions aren't any good. Nor that you can't repair your stuff. Or shoot limbs off with a shotgun.
At least it's pretty and all...

What was I hoping to see in BioShock :
1. Pseudo-linearity :
While you won't be able to do everything at any time, your choices would affect your gameplay / the way characters react to you and of course, MULTIPLE ENDINGS!
Ex. wouldn't it been cool if you'd get a different ending if you used a ton of plasmids? like, bought every single one of em? you become this supa-frankenstein-guy-thing-blah-blah-blah?
:[.
2. Plasmid + World interaction.
Y' know, with all this "ELECTRICITY + WATER = SHOCK, ICE + FIRE = WATER", I was really expecting some fancy stuff / puzzles using this - got NADA!
moar when my brain isn't asleep

Re: Bioshock
I just wanted to report that I just finished the "good guy" ending of the game, on my old 7800GT, I got fairly good framerate with everything except for texture quality off, which tbh didn't change much that mattered to me, graphics-wise.
While it was in most ways a great game, I personally have no desire to do both paths. Easy, once, without dying and generally cutting straight to the ends of the levels wherever possible was still over 6 hours.
DRB complained about this game, saying he didn't bother completing it because it got repetitive, which I somewhat agree with. But it definitely felt like a complete experience.
I have lots of minor quibbles, but overall... it beat the hell out of even Oblivion for sheer visual completeness- everything fit, and it really felt like the art team was incredibly pushing themselves to come up with stuff that was even more spectacular than the last level, as you progressed- stuff like the normal-mapped gears, etc., was really quite impressive technical work.
However, it bothered me a lot that there just weren't any "normal" places, until very late in the game- place with realistic light levels, etc. Nobody IRL would want to live in a world of shadow like that, and it bugs me that a game set in a world whose premise presumes such overall technical excellence on the part of architects, and features working electrical in most areas (glowing neon, etc.) features such poor, inhuman lighting. I know, I know- "atmosphere". Tell ya what, though- if I ever make a game like this, I'll figure out a way to scare the hell out of people without having them just go through dark tunnels all the time

Re: Bioshock
Actually, I'm fairly sure the "inhuman" lighting was becuase the city had been crumbling for the better part of a year, and that constant infighting/civil unrest had wrecked a good number of things.
Also it looks cool.
Oh, and if you have quibbles about the difficulty, there is a fantastic difficulty patch that evens out the rough edges and makes the game harder/more fun. Also the new official patch has an option to remove Vita Chambers (Yaaaay), so the game can actually become System Shock 2 on Impossible difficulty hard again.
Which is good.
I am of the opinion that the ending could have been handled better, but nothing is perfect. If something is perfect, then why make anything new?

Re: Bioshock
Uh, removing the vita chambers does not nearly make the game as difficult as System Shock 2. It's still about 10 times easier. And removing vita chambers was the one difficulty adjustment that was really easy to do with your mind, adding an option to disable them was just stupid. They should've just made them not block the quickload key.
Also, last time I checked, the difficulty mod just did random changing of numbers without changing was was inherently wrong with the game's difficulty.

Re: Bioshock
Er...have you tried the difficulty mod? It makes the game far more balanced...for one thing, you can't buy ammo at Circus of Values anymore. You have to buy them from Ammo Banditos, which had always been useless till now.
Enemies do more damage. You take the same amount of damage from electrified water as the enemies do. Being lit on fire hurts more. It is no longer possible to beat the game with nothing but the wrench. Plasmids are more expensive and you need to actually pick and choose what you equip. Ammo is sparser and you run through it faster.
If that doesn't make what was inherently wrong with the game's difficulty (ammo being too plentiful, reviving instantly with no cost, vending marts had everything, you didn't take enough damage and you could buy almost every plasmid like that).
Really, all that's left to fix is the inventory.
But, this is all just a plus for me. Cuase I loved the game unpatched out of the box, because I'm a huge sucker for brilliant settings and great art direction and awesome plot lines and scares.
(Yes, I am easy to scare)
So, really, for me, it's just making a great game even better. I don't know what it is for you...cause I'm not some kind of space brain telepath thing.
