Excellent starcraft tips video

Post by Zpock »

Here's a video showing a lot of great micro and some strategy, in starcraft, but interesting from a general RTS point of view in my opinion:

There's a lot of these type of videos coming up from decent players (their not korean pro lvl but pretty top amateurs) that are great to learn from, on this site (also has english commentaries of the korean pro games that are always interesting):

Also notice the extremely fine grained gameplay of starcraft where for example every single building choice and even placement is crucial. This is what makes it so awesome in my opinion. Also the "mind games" of trying to figure out what your opponent is doing is always on, since scouting information is just the right hardness to get, and the game is so fast paced.

All the concepts presented in that video are present in Spring/BA. I don't understand the usefullness of the zealots in the dragoon mixture, however. If Dragoon are faster and his zealots are in front of his dragoon, then he could have just run away, keeping the zealots at maximum range where he takes no damage and the zealots take constant fire. Is it because the interface in SC makes it harder to micro a skirmish? Btw, lol @ pylons as makeshift DT.

In SC stuff doesn't move and fire. You get better dps/cost from zealots and they can be upgraded to run faster than dragoons.

Sometimes people do make just a bunch of goons and kite the zealots, usually works best in the beginning, with few units, no zealot speed, and maybe less macro. It's all about how much can they be microed, if it's worth to micro instead of focus on production and such. Notice the goons vs zealots battle in the beginning (3min into the vid) where the goons indeed work very well, later with more units they use both and the more zealot heavy army wins.

<3 starcraft.

Nice video, not too high quality of play but he explains some concepts very well.

Det, zealots when upgraded with speed and mixed with zealots own dragoons, goons dont do full damage to small units such as zealots.

Incidentally my computer asploded so i am stuck on craptop with integrated graphics= no spring

I do have a copy of SC which for some (completely unrelated to software piracy) reason wont let me sign onto battlenet, if anybody wants a game some time over hamachi, send me a pm.

It is worth bearing in mind that I suck worse at SC than I do at BA :P
