Awww. My impartial opinion is that it's a good idea. CA is the best mod after all.SwiftSpear wrote:NOT in our banner.

I made that CA banner. I didn't intend to make anyone upset or give CA any special attention, but at the time I just felt like making a CA banner. I can do the same for all other mods. I too had suggested that we have rotating banners for each mod, but some didn't think that was a good idea for some reason.
I can change the colors, logo, text, whatever to suit any color scheme or layout. Just let me know.
I could make any kind of banner you guys want, just give some suggestions. I can make AA, XTA, BA, CA, Gundam, Nano Blobs, P.U.R.E, Comm Shooter, S44, EE, Star Wars banners or whichever you guys feel are needed.
Also, I think it is silly to deem units from certain mods unfit for the banner. 95% of the time Spring is used to play SOME version of TA, so who cares if the banner is screens of AA, XTA, BA, CA, etc? If Spring has a mod with sexy effects and high res models I think we should advertise them to show off the engine. If we really wanted to not give special attention to one thing or another then we might as well say that a banner can't show a specific map cause "Spring isn't all about Altored Divide, or Delta Siege Dry, etc etc". In fact, I think the banner shouldn't contain any kind of font, cause that would make Arial Black and Times New Roman sad if they weren't included.
Of course I am being sarcastic and taking this to an extreme, but I am just saying that sometimes you can't avoid showing bias in some way or another. The only way I can think of being fair to all mods, maps, etc is to give each equal screen time with a rotating banner, or just show a plain logo at the top.
In a nutshell, this site needs some polish and love, and I just think we should be concerned with advertising Spring's capabilities to get more people to play. You can't advertise an omelet without cracking a few eggs.
Flame, suggest, discuss.... GO!

The banner isnt supposed to eb a fair representation of our mod distribution, its meant to be a pretty banner that sells spring, and I think we've already made it nice and clear TA will not sell. We've exhausted the TA target audience already, anyone a TA banner would reach has already been here or is still here.
We have to make a concious choice to choose whether we pander to the desires of a small niche inside the TA mod community here, or wether we fulfill the primary need of spring itself as a whole.
This isn't an attack on you carbon, I believe your banner is good within a CA context and its use here is simply as an example.

agree with pintle though
We really just need a better banner whether it has TA stuff on it or not. Every released mod should have a banner and we should rotate them evenly.
If we continue the debate about which banner promotes spring most effectively then the answer is simple. Each mod has a banner, use Google web optmizer to measure which one leads to more downloads over the course of two months then the choice is obvious.
In case anyone hasn't noticed all this arguing and posturing is stopping a talent rich community from achieving what should be the simple goal of having a decent looking website. Its rediculous you don't see the Ubuntu, Kubuntu people being this unproffessional do you?

Ok, I just had the best Idea ever... you make a banner with an image that contains no units... you could have lazer fire crossing it, and an explosion or 2 and some fire... and we could still have some rotation... it would be pretty obvious that it's a 3D real time strategy game and the lack of content/mod/game specific stuff would make it easier to get across the "game-engine" concept.
Yay, My mod got remembered!!!lbctech wrote:how about a banner that includes AA, BA, CA, DA, EA, FA, GA, HA, IA, JA, BOTA, NOTA, EE, KP, PURE, Fibre, Evolution, and Chess?
Edit: also... that means what... like 5 units?
edit: also also:
Yeah... but there is a lot less drama generated between users over maps... well... unless someone wanted to include speedmetal in a banner, that might cause some drama.Masure wrote:Map is kind of content too as a mod is. If you show a map, you advertise it against other maps the spring engine can render. As you promote a mod when you show it.
That's why the banner shouldn't show anything.
