Laptop screen problem

Post by TheBigPK »

Just wondering if anyone has heard of this happening... I've got an HP laptop thats just over a year old and the screen is getting horizontal grey lines on it if I leave it closed for awhile but they go away if I move it around or tap the sides a bit.

Do you guys think its a lose connection or a bad screen? I'm thinking its a lose connection because it fixes pretty easily if I just shake it a tad but I really hope its not a bad screen :P I'm broke and my service plan is up soo I suppose I'll be popping her open soon if it stops returning to normal after moving it. Anyone have any idea or have you guys tried to fix anything like this before? I've only really taken apart PCs for fun/to add in new RAM or CD Drives so I'm kinda noobish in hardware...

Figured it out =/ Makes perfect sense as my fan has been getting a bit loud and I guess I should probably get a new one. Just hope this isnt imminent doom once i get a fan =/. Ug nvidia ftl; I've got a go 7400.

Soooo is it hard/impossible to replace laptop video cards? I'm a total noob...

99%+ of all laptop graphics are built into the motherboard. There is no physical removable component to replace unless you remove the entire motherboard.

thats what i thought =/. But the lines and distortion on my screen does not stay on forever so I have my doubts still that it is actually a video card thing. I'm ordering a new fan and till i have to put that in ill probably just deal with them they go away pretty easy by moving the screen upright

I'm not a nvidia fanboy but I think your comment "nvidia ftl" because of your problem is placing the blame in the wrong place.

For instance, my first laptop had a 2 ghz or something pentium 4 processor. Is it intel's fault that chip puts out so much heat it shuts down rapidly to prevent overheating? (It's their fault they made such an inefficient chip but they never forced anyone to use it) And this is just because it's on a table! it needs to have like a 1-inch space underneath it clear so it can get enough air, and the feet on it are only about a quarter-inch tall.

No, in fact it's the laptop manufacturer's fault for being tards and putting a desktop CPU in a laptop. Same for you, it's not the gpu manufacturer's fault that something's gone wrong, it's that the laptop manufacturer for saying, "Testing our product in a real-world scenario is for losers, let's just put it on sale and hope for the best".

If the fan's the problem, again it's not nvidia's fault since they just provide the chipset. Third parties manufacture the board itself and put whatever cooling on it they want.

I work in a factory and let me tell you, if people want a fan that'll work forever, it's perfectly possible. Putting these cheapass 5-cent fans on boards and power supplies is just pure greed, and with no significant payoff, so it's just stupidity.

*tempted to just hit back and forget about it since he's taking things too seriously...*

ya it's definately the fan.. i just kinda tossed nvidia ftl in there cause every similar problem people reported was with those cards rather than ati. I'm still a nvidia fan. Good news though, I havent had the lines appear again for two days now and I think maybe I jiggled the lose connector in. Or im just lucky and have been trying hard to avoid overheating again.
